THEO'S POV:
I was sitting alone in the cafeteria, one leg stretched out beneath the table, the other lazily crossed over it. My untouched lunch sat in front of me, growing colder by the second, but I barely noticed. My fingers drummed against the table in slow, impatient taps while my gaze remained fixed on the tray.
I wasn't hungry.
My mind was elsewhere.
On Kayla.
On what Sevi had said.
He was right.
If I wanted answers, then I needed to find out who the hell Kayla was in love with.
The thought alone made something dark and ugly twist inside my chest.
Who was he?
What kind of idiot had caught her attention?
And why did the idea of another man even looking at her make me feel like setting the entire school on fire?
I clenched my jaw.
Should I just ask her directly?
No.
That would be stupid.
Kayla was sharp, too sharp. The second I asked, she'd get suspicious. She'd start questioning why I cared. Why I wanted to know. And I can't let her think anything worse about me.
No… if I wanted the truth, I'd have to dig it out myself.
I leaned back in my chair, staring down at my lunch without really seeing it.
But how the hell am I supposed to find out?
Before I could think any further, something hot splashed across my chest.
For one split second, I froze.
Then I looked down.
Dark coffee spread over my black leather jacket, dripping onto my uniform shirt beneath it.
Silence.
My entire body went still.
Slowly, very slowly, I lifted my head.
A boy stood in front of me, holding an empty paper cup in trembling hands. His face had drained of color, his lips parting as panic flooded his expression.
"I-I'm so sorry..." he stammered, stepping back. "It was an accident, I swear..."
My chair scraped harshly against the floor as I stood up.
The sound alone made nearby students go silent.
Every conversation in the cafeteria seemed to die instantly.
"You jerk," I said, my voice dangerously quiet.
The boy visibly flinched.
"What the hell did you just do?"
"I-I didn't mean to..."
