Chapter 6 - The Moore Siblings

After the wolf pack gradually dispersed, the two children finally climbed down from the tree.

But the moment they steadied themselves on the ground, they were startled by William, who had appeared out of nowhere. The timid younger sister let out a cry and hurriedly hid behind her brother.

William immediately raised a finger to his lips. "Shh. Keep your voices down. They haven't gone far yet."

With William's warning, the boy leading the pair also became tense, though he still maintained his guard.

He wrapped his arms tightly around his sister and asked in a flustered voice, "Who are you? What are you doing here?"

William looked at the boy. He seemed to be about the same age as himself, but his courage was… frankly not impressive. Still, he was a responsible young man—at least he was trying to act like one, even if whether his protection was actually useful remained to be seen.

"I'm from a nearby village," William said. "I came up the mountain to hunt some game. I heard someone calling for help, so I came to take a look. But you two are really something—if you'd stopped shouting earlier, the wolves would've left already. You don't even know that basic bit of common sense, yet you dare come up the mountain? I honestly don't know whether to say you're brave or just stupid."

Hearing the faintly disdainful tone in William's voice, the boy couldn't help getting angry. "And you're not a coward? You came to 'save' us but just hid nearby and didn't do anything at all. And what's with that bow? You might as well take it home and use it as firewood!"

So what if he had a bow? Facing that many wolves, a few arrows would never be enough. Provoking the pack would only mean death. Of course, William had no intention of arguing with a child over something like that.

William chuckled lightly. "Oh~ you've got some temper. Let's hope your skills are as big as that temper. I'm heading back now. If you can't find your way home, follow me. Don't go dying stupidly out here and end up as wandering ghosts—just more food for the wolves in the end."

Hearing William say this, the boy finally relaxed his guard a little. After all, this guy didn't look like a bad person. Even though he was young, the boy still had some ability to read people. Though he complained with his mouth, his body was honest—he followed closely behind William.

Moore Gons and Moore Dova were a pair of siblings from a nearby village. The younger sister, Moore Dova, also possessed the talent of an Yixingzhe. Their parents had died early, leaving only the two of them to rely on each other. Living under other people's roofs year after year had made the two children extremely sensitive. Even though William spoke with a hint of disdain, they could still feel the goodwill he was giving off.

After walking for a while, Moore Dova, the younger sister, spoke up. "My name is Moore Dova. He's my older brother, Moore Gons. What's your name?"

William turned around to look at them. Moore Dova was still peeking out timidly from behind her brother. William smiled and said, "William. My name is William. Nice to meet you, Moore Dova."

Even though she was still young, Moore Dova already showed outstanding looks. Deep, well-defined features, sensual lips, and large, watery eyes like a Barbie doll—all coming together in a perfect combination. A real beauty in the making.

Hearing William's words, Moore Gons immediately became alert. His little sister was his only family, someone he would protect at all costs. He put on what he thought was a fierce expression and warned, "Don't get any bad ideas. We're not people you can just bully."

In response, William merely smiled faintly, completely ignoring Moore Gons's bluster.

Just then, Moore Dova suddenly cried out again, "Brother! Brother! A Shadow Mountain Lynx?"

Moore Gons tensed up instantly. The siblings were ready to bolt the moment things went bad, but to their surprise, the Shadow Mountain Lynx showed no intention of attacking them. Instead, it affectionately ran up to William and rubbed against his calf.

This new discovery shocked the Moore siblings. Moore Dova cried out in amazement, "You're… you're an Yixingzhe?" When Moore Gons looked at William again, there was even a hint of disgust in his eyes.

Seeing their panic, William explained, "This is Alpha. He's my animal partner. Just like Moore Dova said, I'm an Yixingzhe. I only found my animal partner not long ago. You don't need to be afraid—Alpha is very well-behaved. Without my command, he won't attack people."

Moore Dova also possessed the talent of an Yixingzhe, and it seemed her talent was quite good. She even strongly yearned to become one. Unfortunately, without an animal partner, she had never been able to truly awaken. The reason they had chosen to take such a risk and come here was precisely to obtain an animal partner. Moore Dova knew… only by truly becoming an Yixingzhe would she have the chance to challenge that man.

So compared to her brother, Moore Dova felt far more goodwill toward the boy in front of her. She understood that if she wanted to become an Yixingzhe as soon as possible, then this person before her was her best opportunity. Whether it was his experience or his friendship, both were things worth striving for for these siblings, whose survival was already so difficult.

Moore Dova said, "We understand." As she spoke, she tugged lightly at Moore Gons's clothes and gave him a meaningful look.

William didn't notice the subtle change in the siblings' attitude. Even if he had, he wouldn't have cared. It wasn't arrogance—just confidence. Even if these two kids tried to start something, with Alpha's help, dealing with them would be more than easy. After all, a year of persistent training wasn't for nothing.

William retrieved the two wild rabbits and two big fish he had hidden earlier. Then the three people and one cat set off on their way back. Along the way, the Moore siblings began talking more with William, and the three gradually became familiar with one another.

Watching William easily find the food he had stashed away, Moore Gons couldn't help clicking his tongue in amazement. Even for a seasoned hunter, having such a haul in the wild was no small feat. For the first time, Moore Gons sensed that the boy in front of him was anything but ordinary.

What Moore Gons didn't know was that in recent years, the animals in the nearby mountains and forests had been unusually active, greatly lowering the difficulty of hunting. Hunting had become easier than ever—though this ease was nothing more than a carnival before the coming of cold, darkness, and death…

Moore Dova gradually let her lively and cheerful nature show again. She truly had a good impression of William, this little handsome boy. A pretty and adorable little beauty was naturally likable. What's more, William himself was quite good-looking, and after long-term training, he exuded just the right amount of masculine vigor. Despite his young age, he gave off an air of maturity everywhere.

By the time William was close to getting home, night had already fallen. Compared to before, this was quite late. Sophia and Reynard were both worried, and under Sophia's urging, Reynard was already preparing to go out and look for William.

At that moment, William returned.

After greeting Sunny Sky and White Snow, William quietly lifted the tent flap. He even eavesdropped for a moment before grinning at his parents and Henry. "No need to go looking, Father, Mother. I'm back!"

Seeing William return safely, Sophia hurried over and looked him up and down. "Where did you go, William? Old Gods bless you for coming back safely! You really came back too late this time—I thought you'd run into some danger."

Reynard stepped forward and gave William a light punch in the chest. "You little brat, you made me worry for nothing." Only Henry, standing to the side, curled his lips and said, "I told you William would be fine. He's way more cautious than me—if he's not confident, he absolutely won't act."

William shot back at Henry, "I'm not that adventurous—running up a tree while being chased by a wild boar." Henry immediately puffed up in anger, the joy he'd felt at William's return vanishing without a trace.

"Gods! You're still bringing that up to mock me? I'm way smarter than before now! Seriously, William, I caught a wild rabbit and a white fox today. What about you—how was your haul?"

William laughed. "At least better than yours. I came back late this time because I ran into a wolf pack and saved two people. They don't seem to be from our village. It's already almost dark outside—how about letting them stay here tonight?"

Only then did Reynard and Sophia notice the movement outside the tent.

Facing William's family, the Moore siblings were inevitably a little restrained. Still, they were very good at endearing themselves to others. Moore Dova stepped forward first—after all, who could resist the request of an adorable little girl?

"Hello, everyone. My name is Moore Dova, and this is my brother, Moore Gons. We're from a small village in the southern woods. We ran into William on the mountain today—he saved us…"

When Sophia saw Moore Dova, her eyes lit up as well. She really liked this cute little girl.

In fact, Sophia had always wanted a daughter. Unfortunately, both William and Henry were boys. For a wildling family living beyond the frontier, raising two boys already took everything they had. Raising a third child would have been even harder—thankfully, William and Henry were now able to help support the family through hunting.

Perhaps because of this unfulfilled wish, Sophia couldn't help her maternal instincts overflowing when she looked at these two children. She decided at least to let them stay the night.

Sophia smiled warmly. "William said you don't seem to have anywhere to go right now. Why don't you stay with us tonight? William and Henry both had good hauls today—you'll be in for a treat. Come in quickly, children."

Faced with Sophia's enthusiastic invitation, the Moore siblings couldn't help smiling happily. It had been a long time since they'd encountered such warmth. Beyond the frontier, kindness and survival were often at odds with each other. Only a family like William's, with ample food stores, would dare to welcome outsiders like this.

The Moore siblings naturally had no reason to refuse such goodwill. Even though they were initially intimidated by Reynard's large build, they soon discovered that this big man was actually very gentle. In this way, the siblings came to know William's family.

At night, everyone sat together enjoying the meal. Moore Dova and Moore Gons also began to talk about their past experiences, and William's family gradually came to understand the siblings' story and history…
