Chapter 2 - ☄️SELERA☄️

I stood at the centre of a magical baracade wall trying painfully to execute the instructions of the head elder.

"Call it from within your soul and it will respond. Call it and release only part of it as hot air" the head elder spoke and her blind white eyes held wisdom of generations in them.

I looked into her eyes from across the baracade and a strong sense of determination welled within me. I reached deep into my soul and called for my Soul-flame, the legendary white flame in a thousand years, one that is revered and feared at the Same time. I needed to control it, for my Soul-twin Selith and also that my people would no longer fear me. And my greatest wish, so that I would stop hating myself, hating my very existence that threatens myself and my people as well as give them hope.

I forced out every thought from my mind and focused on my training. I felt my Soul-flame stir and then came a subtle heat like those from fire embers which then slowly increased to the heat from a torch.

Outside the magical baracade, the voices of the elders and my Soul-twin who had finished her training for the day but as always, insists on staying with me until I finish mine, faded into faint sounds as I focused on my Soul-flame.

"Head elder Vaela, my sister has finally reached for her flame. I believe she can rest for today?" Selith asked. The head elder Vaela was the surviving anchor of her late Sister who was the previous head elder. Like any twin born in Ashalyr, They had certain connections although, not as strong as that of a priestess and her Soul-twin who are born of one living flame. Other twins born in Ashalyr are born of different flames though with similar colours. Vaela took on the position of head elder after her twin died to a natural disaster that took the lives of many warriors. After the death of her sister, she grew even wiser but lost her sight after mourning for months.

"Lady Selith, I know the connection between you and your sister is stronger than any twin born in Ashalyr as it should be for the priestess and her Soul-twin. But, if a disaster like that which happened fifteen years ago should happen again, and you are not with her, how does she control herself not to harm her people while trying to stop the disaster?" Head elder Vaela asked.

"But our mother and her sister the formal priestess stopped the disaster and just like you said, there has been no disaster in fifteen years" Selith tried to convince.

"One can never be too careful Lady Selith. The stars have aligned in two ways this time" the head elder began and the other elders, a female and a male pair gave her their full attention.

"Head elder, what does the stars say?" Selith asked as her eyes darts between the head elder and her sister inside the baracade wall.

"One speaks of great news, the other, of something that will change the history and cause of our people" the head elder replied with a far away look and a voice of mystery.

Everyone was left wondering what could be the meaning of those words when a fierce heat sends them a couple of steps backwards. They looked quickly at Selera only to see her surrounded by pure white flames.

"Oh no" Selith Mutter's and rushed towards the baracade.

"Head elder should we drop the baracade?" One of the male elder asked.

"What if she harms her sister?" One of the female elders asked.

"I have to agree with you on that. The priestess is a white flame. If she harms her sister, how would we ever be able to pull her back if she loses control?" The other female elder added.

"Drop the baracade" the head elder spoke.

The first male elder tapped on the beads on his wrist and then, the baracade retreated into the ground. Ashalyr had developed a certain level of technology on their own as they did not interact with the others across the veil which are those in the other planets around the Galaxy. They technology connects with their souls and works according to their thoughts.

Selith rushed to her sister and embraced her. The white flame wrapped around the both of them as an old friend would. She wasn't harmed by it because, she and her sister were born from it and so, it recognized her.

"Selera listen to my voice, come back. You are safe, you can control it" Selith spoke into her sister's ear. And as she spoke, beautiful tendrils of light that represents their bond glowed brightly around them.

I felt my Selith's soul call to me and I responded, grabbing unto our bond. Slowly, my flame receded back into me.

"Selith" I whisper my sister's name as a wave of fatigue washes over me.

"It's alright now. You're alright Selara" Selith said and rubbed smoothing circles on my back.

"What happened?" I asked pulling away slightly to look at her face.

"Priestess Selara, you lost control of your flame but your sister anchored you back" the head elder spoke and if she wasn't blind, I would have believed she could actually see me.

"I see. I'll try again" I spoke, ready to tackle it this time.

"You are exhausted priestess. Using a Soul-flame for a priestess can be tiring not to talk of the legendary white flame. You must be fatigued. Rest, we'll continue some other time" the head elder said.

"Understood" I replied.

"Then we will take our leave now"the head elder added and offered a small respectful bow to I and my sister. The other elders offered their own bows which I and my sister returned and watched them take their leave.

"Sister, so..." Selith started.

"How about we go have dinner with Elion? You've been training since morning. I believe you must be farmished" Selith continued with a big smile.

"Is it because I'm farmished or is it because you wish to see your beloved Elion?" I teased and she faked a gasp before entering into her drama mode.

"Is that what you think of me? Before I met him I knew you first. I'm so heartbroken at the moment" she said while wiping Imagenery tears from her eyes.

We both made our way to her mate's house. My mind was filled with my failed training but for a moment, I didn't want my sister to worry about me. I pushed those thought to the back of my mind and smiled at the thought of seeing Elion and hearing he and Selith Bricker playfully. They were indeed a blessed pair of the goddess herself.
