Chapter 2 - CHAPTER TWO: A SIMPLE HELLO

The message came on a quiet afternoon.

Lana was scrolling absentmindedly through Facebook when she noticed a notification small, easy to miss, but new.

Henric Jamin sent you a message.

She frowned slightly, trying to place the name. Clicking his profile brought back a faint recognition. They had been friends for years. Three, according to Facebook. No shared memories. No conversations. Just… there.

Curious, she opened the chat.

Henric:

Hi Lana. How are you doing?

She paused.

It wasn't flashy. It wasn't dramatic. Just a simple question. The kind people ask when they genuinely want to know.

Lana:

Hi Henric. I'm doing well, thank you. How about you?

His reply came a few minutes later.

Henric:

I'm good too. Just settling back in and catching up with life.

They talked slowly. About nothing in particular. About how the year had started. About work. About random everyday things that didn't require effort or explanation. The conversation didn't feel forced, and that surprised her.

At some point, Henric hesitated before typing his next message.

Henric:

I saw your WhatsApp number on your Facebook page.

Would it be okay if I message you there instead?

Lana stared at the screen for a moment.

She wasn't sure why the question felt different but it did. Not uncomfortable. Just… intentional.

Lana:

Sure, that's fine.

A few minutes later, her phone vibrated.

Unknown Number: Hi Lana, it's Henric.

She smiled softly before replying.

Lana:

Hi Henric 😊

She saved the number.

Henric Jamin.

It felt ordinary. Almost forgettable. Yet something about saving his contact made the moment linger just a little longer than it should have.

They didn't talk for hours. No long paragraphs. No deep confessions. Just short messages, easy responses, and a quiet sense of familiarity that hadn't existed before that day.

And without either of them realizing it, a simple hello had crossed into something new not loud, not rushed, just present.

Sometimes, beginnings don't announce themselves.

They just happen.
