Chapter 8 - 8: Settling In

Varney

I was dragging my broken box down the pathway which led to the dorm I was assigned to, ignoring all the weird and disgusted looks being casted my way. I was dirty, looking like a damn pig and utterly embarrassed out of my mind.

This was definitely not how I imagined my entrance into this school to be like, well I instantly prayed that everyone who's seen me like this today would have forgotten about it tomorrow. After all, I'm irrelevant to them, so they shouldn't remember anything comes tomorrow.

"Nice shirt." Someone called out, his fangs flashing and I flinched, flushing in shame as I walked even faster.

I was silently praying, hoping it would be just us humans in my assigned dormitory because most of those supernatural creatures were scary. It was more scary that I can't tell if everyone who looked human was really human, cause I know not every supernatural has their class written over their faces. Most of them looked very normal until they opened their mouths and fangs popped out.

I came to an abrupt stop at the sight of Varney standing at the side of the entrance of my destination, his arms folded as he watched me condescendingly. His white shirt and pants were perfect looking, and he looked flawless.

"Are you happy with yourself after making such a fool of yourself back there?" He demanded in a biting voice.

I sighed, relieved to see someone familiar but hating where the conversation was heading to.

"You know that wasn't on purpose." I pointed out on a sigh and he scoffed, rolling his eyes.

"If you were that desperate to catch Knox's attention, you should have been smarter at least. I haven't forgotten how badly you used to crush on him. Those pathetic letters you used to write about him."

I stiffened, my mind reeling before I remembered he was referring to the original Varney. A wave of embarrassment came over me over the fact that he believed that was me.

I was straight. Why would I crush on a man?

Although, the man had some really strong looking abs, and those large biceps…

A sigh left my mouth as I spoke. "That's the old me, not anymore."

He stared at me scornfully, laughing as he flicked his nails lazily. "Well, not like you stood a chance anyway. For him to not show any interest in someone as good looking as me, or the other beautiful people that attended his party, that means your chance is nonexistent."

I pursed my lips in annoyance. "At least I didn't attend the party that night to compete for his attention."

That made him gasp in outrage. "How dare you speak to me like that?" He demanded before stepping forward, like he was gonna hit me but he ended up changing his mind as he stepped back again.

"You know what? I better stop speaking with you right now, I don't want anyone to know we're related, so you better stay far away from me as much as possible, if you like your life." He warned, glaring daggers at me before he turned around and disappeared into the building.

I let out a long groan, feeling more drained as I stepped into the large dormitory building, which was so tall and so spacious. It was painted a beautiful brown color and seemed to be about a hundred rooms in total from one glance.

The hallway was so large and by the people walking past me, it was instantly clear this dorm wasn't just for humans but actually mixed with supernatural beings. But of course it is. I stifled a groan.

Since Landon just disappeared into this building, I assumed his room is also in this dorm, and that made me groan in frustration.

I'd rather be far away from him cause I just know he'd not let me rest now that we'd be staying in the same building.

I looked at my keycard. Room 99.

Great. I walked down rows and rows of doors before finally stopping in front of my dorm, and I heaved in relief as I quickly swiped my key over the pad, having thankfully gotten used to these advanced technology since my reincarnation into this world.

The door opened to reveal a large spacious room, and I gasped, awe feeling me. The room was beautiful and looked welcoming. I could already imagine a life here, one where my horrible parents and siblings in this world won't be giving me a hard time, most importantly. I dragged my broken box into the room before stumbling to a stop at the sight of none other person than the red haired boy i encountered back in the hall, who had been extremely rude to me.

He was laying on one of the two beds in here, the one beside the window— dang.

As soon as he noticed my presence, he let out a loud screech and was on his feet at once, glaring at me. "What are you doing in here?!"

I held my key up. "This is my dorm, so I…. er, I guess we're roommates." I muttered and he let out a scream.

"Oh my goodness, of people to get as a roommate, why does it have to be you???" He cried out and I sighed as I wordlessly walked past him to the other bed. I eyed the area beside my bed, he had arranged a lot of stuff from his side all the way to the spot beside my bed, taking up the whole space that should be shared equally between us.

"Can you move some of your stuff, please?" I asked politely but he scoffed, folding his arms.

"My things stay where they are and you'll die if you dare lay your filthy hands on my things!" He gritted out and I fully faced him, briefly wondering about what supernatural class he's from again.

"This room belongs to the two of us, you can't use up my space too, that's unfair and I won't allow that." I breathed out calmly.

He barked out a laugh. "You're a human, are you forgetting that? You're inferior to me, which means you can't fight me on this. You can choose to go report me to anyone, I bet no one would listen to you because guess what? You're human." He snickered at the end of his sentence before walking off, slamming the door after him.

I stood still, hating that he was right.

So far from what I've seen and experienced, humans aren't being treated fairly here. After already gathering so much attention on my first day, I'd rather not attract more attention by trying to go report him to the office in charge of the dorms.

I let out a sigh as I began to unpack my broken box. All my ratty clothes were ruined by that coffee and that made me grimace. I had to wash them all today. Finally, the blue shirt that got ruined with coffee rolled out and my face instantly flushed as I remembered how angry the male lead had looked again. That made me slightly shiver.

Knox.

Knox Xarilian Maddox.

I never could have predicted that I'd ever run into him.

After purposely skipping his birthday party, I was supposed to live normally like a side character and not cross paths with him again.

I hesitantly picked the shirt up, regarding it skeptically.

A musky scent was emitting from it and I brought it to my nose, taking a slight sniff. My senses instantly got assaulted with a rush of low, musky sandalwood scent and I jerked the shirt away fast, blinking hard, my face heated in embarrassment.

What the fuck was that?

I looked at the shirt again. I'd have to wash and iron it, then give it back and apologize. After all, the dean had said I should find a way to make it up to Knox fast.

The dean had sounded like Knox could kill me if he wanted, just cause I ruined his shirt.

I hope he was joking.

By evening time, we all had dinner in the dining area of our dorm, which was named the bronze dorminatory.

Apparently, five dorms existed in total, and ours was the lowest category.

Aside ours, silver, gold, platinum and S-class dormitories existed.

Everyone wished they could get access to the s-class dorm, but turns out only special people with high rankings were opportuned to room there.

Only people in the s-class dorm could bring their cars into this school, and aside that, they could do whatever they wanted without any backlash.

All of these, I overheard from the group of fairies seated beside my table.

I ate by myself cause no one chose to sit with me, and I tried hard to not let it get to me.

It was for the best, right? At least since they're avoiding me, this means they won't be able to bring trouble my way.

Shortly after we got back to our rooms, knocks suddenly echoed on every door almost at the same time, echoing loudly. I startled, my eyes flying open.

I had changed into my sleep clothes and was already falling asleep. It was presently past ten. Who could it be that was knocking on all doors right now?

"Go answer the door, human." My roommate whose name I still didn't know hurled at me from across his shoulder. He was closer to the door, presently splayed over the ground in some yoga poses.

I scowled at him. "You go answer the door. You're closer to do the door."

He shot me a glare. "You dare to—"

"Look, I'm tired and want to sleep, okay? Just go get the door so they'd stop knocking." I cut him off.

He scowled at me before wordlessly heading for the door and pulling it open. A boy was in the doorway, looking daunting and powerful in his shirtless form, his muscles bulging.

"Everyone out, we're gathering in the backyard right now for the initiation ritual." He ordered. Behind him, a lot of ruckus was going on and so many students were being ushered past the opened door. The ones doing the ushering were definitely seniors.

I stiffened. Initiation ritual? What does that mean?

My roommate squeaked happily, bouncing excitedly. "I'll be there right now."

"Uh, can I skip it? I don't think I'm interested." I said when the guy stared at me flatly.

He snorted, his lips twitching. "No newbie can skip it, so no. You must accompany me right now."

I felt my heart pound drop into my stomach at once.

What was this initiation ritual about?

I hope it doesn't involve anything troublesome.
