Liam Linden hid behind a tree. He took a step out, then pulled back.
He watched in silence.
Faye Vaughn had fallen, lying prone on the ground. She didn't get up for a long time. 'Is she hurt from the fall, or did she faint?'
Liam Linden instinctively clenched his fists, forcing himself to suppress the urge to run out and help her up.
'She just tripped. It can't be that serious. She'll give up looking for me soon and go live her own life.'
Liam Linden held back, his gaze locked on Faye Vaughn.
But she remained motionless, her long hair fanned out around her. Her face was buried in her arms, and he couldn't tell if she was conscious.
'She couldn't have actually fainted, could she?'
'She's been searching for me in these woods for so long, she must have already been exhausted. Could it be low blood sugar?'
Liam Linden's mind was a chaotic jumble of thoughts, full of worry and conflict.
