Under Mr. Donovan's displeased gaze, and with Evan Keller and the others watching, Mrs. Donovan began to speak. She ticked off her father's usual hobbies on her fingers. "My dad liked to go for walks, watch people play chess, and randomly strike up conversations with strangers on the street.
But not many people were patient enough to listen to him, so he usually ended up chatting with homeless people or others who just sat around on the street all day."
'The latter group wasn't so bad,' she thought. 'At least their clothes were clean and tidy. If he ran into some lost young person, he could even play the part of a life coach.'
'Listening to those young people express their gratitude made the old man ecstatic, and he only grew more enthusiastic about it.'
'She could understand that part, but what was the deal with the homeless people?'
