The next day, when Sophie Wexler saw Cillian Forrest emerge, she couldn't stop her eyes from drifting to the neck ring on his throat.

Sophie Wexler's chaotic thoughts hadn't yet settled when Cillian Forrest's words landed in her ears, feeling as if they had seared her whole body.
Sophie Wexler all but shot up on the spot. She was completely unable to look Cillian Forrest in the eye.
"Nothing," she said, wishing she could bury her head in the ground. "I wasn't looking at anything…"
"Um… I, I have something to do," Sophie Wexler said, scrambling for an excuse. "The competition, yes, I need to go prepare for the competition."
"Don't call for me for the next few days unless it's important." After saying that, Sophie Wexler immediately bolted.
