Xin Huohuo clenched her teeth and curled herself into a tight little ball, trying to leave no part of her exposed. She pressed her body so firmly into the corner it felt as if her very flesh and blood were merging with the building.
Yan Huo's hand was outstretched, frozen awkwardly in mid-air. He had absolutely no idea what to do.
He was just bluffing. Why wasn't this mortal woman scared? Why wasn't she trying to get away? It put him in such a passive position.
He was furious, yes, but Xin Huohuo was a girl, and he never hit girls! Besides, this was the person his master cared about. His master might have said they were done for good, but there could easily be lingering feelings, a connection that wasn't truly severed...
He didn't dare imagine that scenario. It wasn't that he thought his master would punish him; he was just afraid of making his master unhappy. If they had to interact in the future, he'd be too ashamed to face him.
