Gu Wenheng was once again called away by Gong Zhengping, braving the probing stares of his many colleagues in the Hanlin Academy. He didn't need to turn around to guess that these people would be gossiping behind his back again.
"Sir," Gu Wenheng said. He looked at Gong Zhengping, who was still writing furiously, and stood quietly to the side to wait.
Gong Zhengping set down his brush, took a seat, and pointed to the chair next to him. "Have a seat."
As soon as Gu Wenheng sat down, an attendant brought him tea.
Gong Zhengping cut straight to the chase. "Recently, many officials' properties have been confiscated, and a lot of positions have opened up. Do you have any thoughts on this?"
Gu Wenheng lowered his eyes. "This subordinate is but a newcomer to the officialdom. I shouldn't be qualified for a transfer, right?"
