Old Mrs. Ning grew anxious. She had only been the matriarch of an official family for a short time and hadn't enjoyed much of her good fortune yet. She certainly didn't want to be inexplicably murdered by that venomous woman.
The more she thought about it, the more panicked she became. No longer caring about keeping up appearances, she nervously grabbed the old doctor's hand, frightening him so much that he tried to shake her off.
"Madam, please conduct yourself with dignity. Do not get so handsy; it will damage my untarnished reputation."
The attendant standing nearby also grew frantic. His mentor's wife had repeatedly instructed him to pay special attention to his mentor's boundaries with women. How was he supposed to explain this when they got back?
Without a second thought, he lunged forward to pry Madam Ning's hands away. "Don't touch my mentor! If you have to grab someone, grab my hands instead."
