When Zhu Yun opened her eyes, she was lying in a hospital. Her ears were filled with a racket.
"Popping out a useless girl and she still needs me to wait on her. The nerve," a sharp-tongued old woman said, clattering things around as she washed them on the small hospital balcony.
"I was still working when I had my kids. I was back to carrying a hoe right after giving birth. Haven't seen her in half a year and she thinks she's a city slicker now, insisting on coming to a hospital just to have a baby..."
She had no strength, and her stomach ached with a stabbing pain. She turned her head and saw a bassinet, where a newborn was gurgling and chewing on its hand.
Zhu Yun closed her eyes and opened them again. Nothing had changed. Just then, a man walked in carrying a bag of fruit.
The man saw her staring at him without blinking. He paused for a moment, then smiled, pulling an apple from the bag and offering it to her. "Would you like one? I just washed it."
