Voices sounded from the other side.
"What the? How did a pebble get here?"
Jane Sterling raised an eyebrow. Seizing the opportunity, she quickly slipped past the large iron gate.
'Thankfully, most of them must have gone to rest by now. Only a few are left on patrol.'
The pebble had drawn all their attention, so no one was guarding the gate now.
Jane Sterling went up the steps, cautiously poking her head out to take a look.
She saw a spacious hall. The only thing in it was a new-looking sofa not far away. Other than that, the place looked incredibly bare.
Beyond the sofa were large, floor-to-ceiling windows. Outside, plants grew wild, obscuring the sky and plunging the area into perpetual gloom.
Jane Sterling pushed her thoughts aside and quickly ran to the side of the room.
She hugged the wall as she moved, only to hear the sound of frantic footsteps behind her.
"The woman's escaped! After her, quick!"
"She can't have gotten far! If the boss finds out, we're all dead!"
