Shan Wei was growing anxious at the door. As a top agent, she never put all her eggs in one basket. The moment she thought Chu Yao had lost the female lead role, Shan Wei's mind was already racing to find her other opportunities.
Whether it was commercial endorsements or variety shows, as long as a suitable opportunity presented itself, Shan Wei would never let it slip by.
Although Chu Yao wasn't an A-list star, she still had a small degree of fame. Finding top-tier opportunities wasn't easy, but securing some that simply paid the bills wasn't difficult.
Today, however, when Shan Wei made a few calls, people either said they had already found someone or, upon hearing Chu Yao's name, simply declined, saying she wasn't a good fit.
Chu Yao was Shan Wei's savior, and Shan Wei was well aware of Chu Yao's situation, so she always wanted to help her a little more.
After several consecutive calls yielded no results, a faint sense of unease crept into Shan Wei's heart. Her first thought was, 'Did Chu Yao offend someone? Has she been blacklisted?'
But she quickly dismissed the idea. 'With Chu Yao's personality—low-key and reserved, yet with a silver tongue that could fool the gods themselves—who could she possibly offend?'
Shan Wei was still lost in frustrated thought, clutching her phone, when the door to the room opened. The first person to walk out was Mi Feifei, dressed in red, followed by a dazed-looking Chu Yao.
Just as Shan Wei was about to walk over, she saw Mi Feifei turn back, extend a hand to Chu Yao, and say with an exceptionally warm smile, "Miss Chu, it was a pleasure."
Chu Yao instinctively reached out her hand. Mi Feifei gave it a perfunctory shake, then turned and left. As she passed Shan Wei, she offered another friendly smile by way of greeting.
"Yaoyao, what happened?"
Shan Wei gripped Chu Yao's arm. Chu Yao still looked completely bewildered, staring blankly for several seconds before grabbing Shan Wei's hand in return. "Let's go first."
The two of them hurried out. Once outside, Chu Yao saw the same Bentley from that morning. Mi Feifei, in her red dress, had just disappeared inside. The windows didn't roll down, and the car quickly drove away.
Chu Yao watched the luxury car as it drove into the distance, pressing her lips together. Her intuition told her that person was in the car.
"Yaoyao?"
Shan Wei frowned. Chu Yao had been looking dazed ever since she came out, and now she was just standing there, lost in thought. Shan Wei tugged on her sleeve, and Chu Yao finally seemed to snap out of it, as if waking from a dream.
Once they were in the agency van, Shan Wei immediately turned to her with a serious expression. "What is going on?"
Chu Yao grabbed a bottle of water from the side and took a long swig. Only then did she begin to stammer, "Sister Wei, I... if I told you I got the female lead role, would you believe me?"
Now it was Shan Wei's turn to be stunned. 'The female lead?'
From the very second Mi Feifei had appeared that morning, everyone—Shan Wei included—had assumed she was a lock for the female lead.
In terms of looks, Mi Feifei was on par with Chu Yao. As for aura, while Chu Yao seemed more innocent, Mi Feifei's acting skills were more than enough to make up for that slight difference. On top of that, Mi Feifei's popularity and influence were undeniable. If she *didn't* get the lead role, even Shan Wei would think Director Gu had lost his mind.
And yet, Chu Yao had just dropped this bombshell.
After a moment of stunned silence, Shan Wei snapped back to reality. "What happened?"
Chu Yao took another sip of water before explaining what had just happened. After she finished her performance, Director Gu had someone bring her the script for the female lead. He gave her five minutes to prepare and then told her to give it a try.
Chu Yao had already prepared for the female lead role, so after a brief moment of confusion, she quickly got into character.
