Chu Yao froze for a moment. She glanced at Lu Xize's phone screen; the caller ID showed no name, only an international number.
She glanced at Lu Xize again before reaching out and taking the phone from him.
She had just put the phone to her ear, not yet having said a word, when a crisp female voice came through the line. "Yaoyao, this is Lu Hailan."
Chu Yao froze again. 'Lu Hailan? Lu Xize's mother?'
She immediately looked up at Lu Xize, but he showed no reaction. He was already busy taking out the breakfast they had bought earlier, one item at a time.
"Yaoyao?"
Lu Hailan's voice came over the phone again, snapping Chu Yao back to her senses. "Aunt... Aunt Lu, hello."
The Lu Family and the Chu Family used to be neighbors. While Chu Yao wasn't clear on the Lu Family's wealth, she knew their general situation. Lu Xize was different from her; he had taken his mother's surname. Therefore, the so-called "Lu Family" was actually centered around his mother.
