Laito was looking at the Spell's runes while walking and grinning wildly.
'I absolutely love it. The description I mean. The sabre's cool too.'
He thought about the sabres image.
Crafted beautifully from lustrous metal, though without much decorations, it was covered in mystical runes along its single-edged blade. Simple yet deadly.
'Amazing, he must know the Sorcery of Runes. Maybe even Weaving, though it's really unlikely.' Laito, glanced at an Ascendant Fang, Incandescent's master of the Forge, who was leading the trio of Awakened Knights on their "Nights out". Now. Why was Laito with them?
He really had no idea, but supposedly he was "working his ass off" through the past few months and "it would do him good to "let him blow off the steam"."
Was it though, a good idea to take a minor with them for "Drinking themselves dead drunk at the tavern, with the companionship of the wenches" type of "fun"?
Obviously not.
But when Laito was officially promoted from an "Apprentice" into a "Squire" he apparently became a part of the Order and as such, from that moment, he was considered an "adult" by all means and purposes in the face of the law of the Sun Empire.
As part of the Incandescent Order he was now obliged to take part in combat, even in minuscule part. So it would be weird if he was barred from drinking alcohol, or making other decisions for himself.
At least that was the "logic" they had.
That's how he ended up being dragged by his three senior Awakened Knights, with an unspoken "I don't care" from Master Fang.
The night was slowly closing in. One could wonder "How does a night look in the land with an eclipsed sun, while the other was artificial and unmoving".
It seemed that the "Sun" illuminating the skies in this land was a man-made creation. An artifact created with the help of a Sovereign on top of that and rumored to receive a blessing from the Sun God himself. The Emperor himself ordered its construction for the sake of colonizing this rotten land and it was "programmed" to adjust intensity of its light according to the normal day/night cycle.
The Silver Sovereign has sent the Saint Gandeon and his Incandescent across the sea to reach this place decades ago.
Now, the Incandescent Keep was still the only outpost on that entire cursed continent, although it grew immensely.
Accidentally all the exiles were sent there too. Like the legendary "usurper". Empire's strongest Saint: Lord Godar The "Beast King", who allegedly attempted to overthrow the Silver Sovereign and now was wandering the empty dead-lands all on his own.
But criminals were not the only ones coming to that place.
Opportunity seekers, adventurers, traders, craftsmen, researchers, storytellers, minstrels. All kinds of people were cruising the sea to reach eclipsed lands.
All of that was possible because of the sacrifice made by the Incandescent Knights, who were risking their lives every day, to keep the various monsters roaming this land at bay.
The same Knights who were excitedly swaggering through the city's streets in the direction of the harbour, where the "best tavern in the damned city" was.
"Hey kid stop daydreaming and get into flow. Look! That's how it's supposed to look like! One of the Knights declared and raised his hands above his hand in a gesture.
"Praise the SUN!"
Master Fang facepalmed. "You are blaspheming now, you idiot.
"Nu-uh!" And the three Awakened knights started to dance together as they went in tandem in the tavern's entrance direction.
"Lord have mercy, I knew it would be like this. Why did I want to do this again?" The Ascendant forge-master complained, but then he briefly glanced in Laito's direction.
"Never mind. PRAISE THE SUN!" And he also danced into the tavern's door."
Laito stood dumbfounded in front of the now much louder tavern.
—
—
—
"You are shitting me." He murmured.
"Excuse me, could you help me young man?"
Laito turned and saw a poor looking, very old lady that used a branch as a walking stick.
He raised his brows. "What can I help you with?"
"Oh It's really nothing difficult dear Sir Knight." She said while grinning at him. Toothlessly.
"I would only need a little help with little something~"
—
"Well~?...-" Laito tried to get her to elaborate."
"
"Okeeeeey…- where's the grave?" He asked, raising an eyebrow skeptically.
"Oh darling, don't sweat over such small details…- it's JUST tiny-weeny-bitty bit beyond the city's gate…-"
"NOPE!"
—
"

–
–
"Just what the fuck is going on with everyone here?" He asked himself, as he threw his hands above his head.
"PRAISE THE SUN!!!"
And he danced into the tavern.
What he saw inside was…- fascinating.
In the spotlight of the tavern: A person was currently dancing vigorously on the table, smoking something from the pipe and drinking from a tankard, while surrounded by the cheering group of Knights with which Laito has arrived here...- and a group of big tiddied tavern wenches.
They ware excitedly cheering for the person on the table.
And that person was…-
Lord Commander himself. Saint Gandeon Olorfnir the "Font of Wisdom".

"I FUCKING KNEW IT!" Laito shouted, as he grabbed himself by the head.
"WE NEED A SAX! ANYONE! GIVE HIM A SAX!!!"
