Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 — The Echo of Lysa

The academy courtyard grew quiet in the afternoon.

There were sounds, but no urgency.

Iren sat on a bench.

His body was tired.

His soul, heavy.

The pressure of the Vein tier no longer faded.

Unfamiliar memories drifted through his blood—

the final thoughts of criminals,

broken promises,

regrets whispered just before death.

He closed his eyes.

And then—

he saw her.

Lysa.

The same hair.

The same way of walking.

But something around her was… different.

Iren looked.

His gaze stopped instantly.

Around Lysa was a light—

not bright,

but soft.

A protected circle.

Vein-tier perception could not enter it.

For the first time—

Iren saw someone

he could not touch.

Not just physically—

but existentially.

The Doll spoke.

Very softly.

"Observe."

A pause.

"Do not touch."

Iren's chest trembled.

Why?

He did not ask the question with his mouth.

He asked it through his blood.

The Doll did not answer.

Lysa smiled.

She did not see Iren.

Or perhaps she did—

the way one sees a story.

Iren understood—

he was now someone

who was no longer written into it.

A strange anger rose inside him.

Not toward the Doll.

Not toward Lysa.

Toward the story itself.

That night, standing on a city rooftop,

the image of that light remained burned into his eyes.

He collected another soul.

Another guilty one.

But this time—

there was no pleasure.

The Doll stayed silent.

And somewhere far away—

the name REBIL trembled once again.

Chapter-End Line

Some people are protected by power.

Others by innocence.

And then there are those like Iren—

protected by nothing at all.

Watching a life he could no longer touch,

he understood that the cruelest punishment

was not being controlled…

but being excluded from the story

that still remembered how to be human.
