Chapter 49 - CHAPTER FOURTY NINE

Zayn immediately stood up.

He quickly walked toward the private room.

Although his facial expression remained calm and gave away nothing, his slightly disorderly footsteps betrayed the concern hidden beneath that composed exterior.

He pushed open the door and stepped inside.

Yu Weiwei was sitting on the bed, looking completely dazed.

His curly hair had become even bouncier after sleeping, sticking out in every direction. He yawned like a kitten that had only just woken from a long sleep, his eyes half closed and his expression slightly listless.

Zayn couldn't help smiling when he saw his adorable appearance.

'Tsk. Who would have thought that the evil Lin Zhe and brainless Yu Chen would actually produce such an adorable kid?'

Zayn clicked his tongue in amusement as he watched Yu Weiwei slowly open his swollen eyes.

He walked toward the refrigerator, opened it, and took out a pack of ice.

Then he returned to the bed and sat beside Yu Weiwei.

Even after seeing Zayn's current appearance, Yu Weiwei didn't seem particularly surprised.

Perhaps he was simply too sleepy to care.

He calmly took the ice pack from Zayn and pressed it against his swollen eyes.

After a moment, Yu Weiwei suddenly looked up.

"Godfather, you looked so handsome when you smiled just now. Hehe."

His tiger teeth appeared as he grinned.

"You little rascal."

Zayn scolded him helplessly, though the corners of his lips twitched upward.

Yu Weiwei was probably trying to change the subject because he knew he had done something wrong.

"Don't think I won't scold you. Why the hell would you undergo the Truth Seer?! And that Si Tian! I told you to stay away from him, but you acted like you were possessed and refused to listen!"

Zayn's expression became increasingly annoyed as he continued.

"What's so good about him anyway?"

He glared at Yu Weiwei.

"If I could leave this place, I would have beaten you up myself."

Yu Weiwei's body immediately shrank slightly under his glare.

"And do you think I don't know about the great feat you've accomplished these past few days?"

Zayn's voice rose.

"You even dared to destroy one of the Red Dragon Association's main laboratories!"

Yu Weiwei immediately cowered like a primary school student who had done something wrong and was currently being scolded by his teacher.

Yet despite his pitiful appearance, his eyes shone brightly.

He seemed to be in a surprisingly good mood.

It was good.

It was really good.

Let him scold him.

Yu Weiwei would rather be scolded than face that cold, silent corpse ever again.

At least this was better.

Much better.

"You brat! What are you smiling about?! Do you think you're right?!"

Zayn reached out and pulled Yu Weiwei's ear in annoyance.

"Ouch! Ouch! I was wrong! Ahhh!"

Yu Weiwei immediately begged for mercy.

Then, before Zayn could continue lecturing him, he suddenly dove into Zayn's arms.

Zayn froze for a moment.

He looked down at the little rascal clinging tightly to him.

For a moment, he didn't say anything.

Then the helpless smile at the corner of his mouth became even more pronounced.

"Yu Weiwei."

Zayn suddenly called out his full name.

The moment he heard it, Yu Weiwei froze.

His body stiffened slightly.

He knew he was in trouble whenever Zayn called him by his full name.

Still, he didn't leave the comfortable embrace.

"Hmm?"

"You met System 001, right?"

Zayn's voice was almost a whisper.

The moment Yu Weiwei heard those words, he jolted out of Zayn's arms.

His sleepy expression vanished instantly.

His eyes widened in shock as he stared at Zayn, unable to hide his disbelief.

"You really did..."

Zayn's voice trembled slightly.

"That means we succeeded..."

A complicated mixture of relief and heartache appeared in his eyes.

"Ah... it must have been very lonely and painful."

The moment he said that, Zayn pulled Yu Weiwei back into his arms.

His voice was filled with such heartbreak that Yu Weiwei could almost feel the pain behind every word.

Yu Weiwei stood there dumbfounded.

His mind was in complete chaos.

What was Zayn talking about?

What did he mean by System 001?

And what exactly had they succeeded in?

He tried desperately to make sense of it all, but his thoughts were tangled together like a giant knot.

His head felt like a complete jumble, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't seem to think straight.

A few minutes later, Yu Weiwei finally emerged from Zayn's embrace.

He sat quietly for a moment before turning toward Zayn.

This time, there was no trace of his previous playful expression.

His gaze was steady and unwavering.

"What do you mean by System 001?"

His voice trembled slightly as he asked the question.

Zayn fell silent.

After a moment, he sighed.

"Weiwei, have you ever heard of ghosts?"

Yu Weiwei blinked.

"Huh? Of course."

He was slightly caught off guard.

What did ghosts have to do with System 001?

The two topics didn't seem related at all.

Zayn adjusted his sitting position before slowly continuing.

"The Interstellar Mecha god believed that only those who are worthy can be reincarnated, regardless of whether they were good or evil during their lifetime."

He paused for a moment.

"And the Mecha God has his own judgment."

"Those who die after accomplishing great deeds alongside their mecha are given the opportunity to enter reincarnation."

Yu Weiwei listened quietly.

"But there's a problem."

Zayn's gaze became slightly distant.

"The majority of people have never even touched a mecha in their entire lives."

He slowly turned his eyes toward Yu Weiwei and asked.

"So where do they go?"

"Where?"

Yu Weiwei asked curiously.

"Nowhere."

Zayn's voice was calm.

"They become wandering ghosts."

He smiled faintly and reached out to pat Yu Weiwei's fluffy head.

"And too much of anything is never a good thing."

Yu Weiwei's expression slowly changed.

He seemed to understand what Zayn was getting at.

But then his brows furrowed.

"That's not right."

He shook his head.

"I don't think I've ever felt the presence of a ghost before."

Zayn chuckled softly.

"Hehe... that's because a new god emerged."

His expression gradually became more serious.

"More than a thousand years ago, the Spiritual World had already become severely depleted. It could no longer contain the wandering ghosts, and eventually, they began leaking into the real world."

Yu Weiwei's expression became serious.

"At first, no one understood what was happening."

"People simply started dying inexplicably, no disease, no illness, no poison, no murderer."

"There was no obvious cause behind their deaths, yet the way they died was horrifying."

Zayn's voice lowered.

"Before long, the entire world descended into panic."

"It became a world of horror."

Yu Weiwei listened without interrupting.

"Then..."

Zayn paused.

"A god emerged."

His crimson eyes seemed to carry a trace of remembrance.

"Xu Nianye."

"Ehn???!!"

Yu Weiwei suddenly interrupted him.

His eyes widened.

"Xu Nianye, the Mecha God?! The one who led humanity to find their home?!"

"Hmm."

Zayn nodded calmly.

"That is him."

Then he smiled faintly.

"And also the owner of the mecha your little pet destroyed."

Yu Weiwei's expression immediately became awkward.

"Though I'm still rather curious about how you managed to repair it."

Zayn narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze filled with amusement.

"Sigh... your godfather was even planning on helping you pay for the repairs."

He reached out and pinched Yu Weiwei's nose.

"Who would have thought our little Weiwei would turn out to be so powerful?"

Yu Weiwei giggled.

However, despite his laughter, his eyes began darting around suspiciously.

The tiny movement immediately betrayed him.

There was guilt written all over his face.

Zayn's eyes narrowed.

"..."

Yu Weiwei's smile stiffened.

"..."

The two stared at each other.

Yu Weiwei quietly looked away.

Clearly, he had absolutely no intention of explaining himself.

Zayn's lips twitched.

This little brat.

He really thought he could fool him with that innocent face?

"So what kind of god did he become? And what happened after that?" Yu Weiwei asked, clearly trying to change the subject.

Zayn noticed what he was doing but had no intention of probing any further.

Yu Weiwei had always been the type who couldn't keep secrets from the people he was close to. No matter how hard he tried to hide something, he would eventually spill everything himself.

So there was no need to force him.

He would tell him sooner or later.

"Well, he's known as the God of Mystic Puppets. He specializes in bringing puppets to life, especially puppets such as mechas."

"I thought he would be something like the God of Mechas or something?" Yu Weiwei asked, slightly confused.

He had always thought that Xu Nianye was a god related directly to mechas. He had never known that his actual specialty was bringing artificial constructs to life.

"Hahahaha, not everyone knows this, but God Xu's main profession before he became a god was actually a mecha constructor, also known as a Forge Master."
