Chapter 24 - Chapter 24 - Revenge

All members of Team Kaos had gathered to divide tasks and plan how to help Tristan. After three days of tireless investigation, they had uncovered vital information: it turned out that Satomi had been secretly gathering intel on the individuals targeting Tristan, despite being explicitly told to stay out of it. He had even tried contacting a special military force from a foreign nation—one powerful enough to rival the influence of the Fauvism.

Moreover, the men Luna and Yuna had killed belonged to the same unit as those who assassinated Satomi. This suggested that the Fauvism had orchestrated a coordinated strike, targeting the twins and Satomi at the same time.

Yuna had interrogated the three opponents she and Luna had defeated. From them, she learned that they weren't part of the elite—they were mere novices. They knew nothing about the elite's internal operations, but they did let slip that another covert mission was underway—one they themselves were not privy to.

The team also succeeded in locating the base of operations of the enemy group that had attacked the twins and murdered Satomi.

This was the summary of everything they had discovered during that week. Then, Jayden, Tristan and Chris headed toward the enemy base they had found—much of the credit for locating it went to Chris, who was exceptionally skilled in information gathering.

Now, crouched behind the thick bushes overlooking the base, Tristan peered through his binoculars. Jayden and Chris flanked him, listening as he whispered:

"Two guards at the front gate, two more at the back. Additional guards inside."

Chris added, "Based on our estimates, there are three known users of wonder stones within this facility. But we still don't know what elements they had, what weapons they use, or whether they're elites or just rookies."

"The only thing I know," Jayden said, his voice cold and resolute, "is that we're storming this damned place and smashing everyone inside."

"Then let's get started," tristan added, standing up.

Jayden calmly walked toward the front path. The two guards there blinked in confusion, unsure what to make of him. One of them raised his weapon and barked, "Hey, punk! You looking to die?"

Jayden replied coolly, "Not really. I'd rather you let me in peacefully so I can have a word with someone inside who owes me something."

"And who the hell are you?"

"I'm Durbin Jayden."

The moment they heard his name, both guards opened fire.

These weren't ordinary bullets—they were infused with fire power, charged by the very followers of the Fauvism. These henchmen imbued their weapons with stone energy to increase their lethality, just as Jayden had once done during his reign as leader of the Iron Phantom gang.

But Jayden was no easy target. With a sharp surge of electrical energy, he deflected the flaming rounds then charged at the guards. They both drew swords infused with electricity but even together, they could barely keep up with him. He parried and danced between their strikes, then unleashed a powerful electrical blast that sent them crashing to the ground.

Security cameras caught everything. Jayden turned toward one of them and gave a mocking smirk, intentionally provoking the enemy.

More guards poured out of the base to confront him. Jayden, cigarette in mouth, eyed them lazily and muttered:

"Let's play, children."

Meanwhile, deep inside the facility, three men lounged in a lavish hall, smoking hash and sipping expensive champagne. Suddenly, one of their subordinates burst in.

"Sirs! We're under attack. Durbin Jayden is here."

One of the three raised an eyebrow. "Durbin came here himself? Alone?"

"Yes, sir. He's already taken down several of our men."

"I suppose I'll go and—"

Before he could finish, the windows shattered and a wave of sonic energy blasted into the room. The three seated men jumped aside in time but their subordinate wasn't so lucky—he was thrown to the floor in pain.

Chris and Tristan leapt in through the broken window.

Now, five wonder stone heirs stood in the room, eyes locked, sparks of power dancing in the air.

Chris pointed at them. "Ivan, Boomer, Ken… you three are responsible for the assassination of Satomi Sleizer."

Boomer gave a crooked smile. "That's us. So what do you want?"

"Turn yourselves in. It'll be easier for you."

"That's funny. But who the hell are you?"

Ken spoke up, "We know Tristan—he was our previous target. But you? Who are you, mystery man?"

Chris's eyes glinted coldly. "I'm the one who'll send you straight to hell."

Ivan was an air-element wielder, his weapon a sword. Boomer commanded fire and carried a spear. Ken used electricity, armed with a military-grade rifle.

Ken opened the battle, firing electric-charged bullets at the two heroes. Chris deflected them with a watery barrier. Ivan teleported behind them, slashing with his sword but Tristan reacted fast, blocking with his chainsaw.

Wind surged around them as the two clashed blades, each infusing their weapons with elemental force. Tristan unleashed a wave of sound, but Ivan countered with a gust of air. They broke apart, only for Tristan to leap above, aiming a wind-infused strike downward. Ivan barely blocked it but was forced to retreat.

"You're strong," Ivan panted. "What's the matter? Avenging that foolish friend of yours?"

Tristan's eyes flared. "Don't you dare speak his name."

Anger took hold. With a roar, Tristan lunged, unleashing a furious series of attacks. Ivan teleported behind him, blade raised.

"Tristan! Behind you!" Chris shouted.

Tristan narrowly dodged, but the blade grazed his back.

Chris jumped in. "Don't let him get in your head. He's provoking you on purpose."

"You're right," Tristan growled.

"We can beat them. They're rookies."

"Then let's finish this."

Ken called out, "What are you two whispering about?"

Tristan sneered. "None of your business."

"Don't act cocky—we outnumber you."

"We'll see about that."

Tristan grabbed Chris's arm, teleporting them both into the air above the hall. Chris activated his signature move—Avalanche. A storm of snow and ice crashed down toward the three enemies, threatening to freeze them completely.

Each of them conjured an energy shield, blocking the attack. But Boomer was caught off-guard when Tristan teleported behind him, slashing deep into his abdomen. He staggered, then was thrown to the ground.

Ivan moved to protect his teammate, but Tristan met his sword with his own again. Boomer, despite his injury, hurled his fire-charged spear, but Tristan blocked it with a sonic counter.

Ivan struck from above—but Tristan vanished, reappearing behind Boomer and slicing through his back. His chainsaw tore through Boomer's lungs and heart.

"Boomer!" Ivan screamed.

Enraged, Ivan charged. Both he and Tristan poured every ounce of power into their weapons. After a brief, intense clash, Tristan emerged victorious, cleaving Ivan's head clean off.

Two down.

Chris now faced Ken.

"Come on then, mystery man. Let's see what you've got."

"Gladly."

Ken unleashed a barrage of high-voltage rounds. Chris's water barrier failed this time, forcing him to counter with a frost-infused axe. As he fought off the blasts, Ken rushed him, striking Chris in the chest with his flaming rifle. Chris stumbled, and Ken aimed his gun at his head—only to sense something above him.

He stepped back just in time as Chris's ice-charged axe came crashing down, freezing and shattering the floor where he had just stood.

"You're clever," Ken admitted. "You planned that the moment I hit you—throwing your axe so it'd fall on my head."

Chris glared. "Smart. But your head's coming off anyway. Show me what you've got."

Ken fired a final, all-out lightning shot. Chris answered with a devastating ice strike. Their powers collided in a fierce explosion.

When the dust settled, Ken was on the ground—defeated.

Chris approached him slowly.

"Which one of you came up with the plan to kill Satomi?"

"All of us did, mystery man," Ken rasped.

"Interesting."

Chris raised his axe and split him in half.

Tristan approached, nodding. "Well done."

"You too," Chris replied. "Took down two on your own."

"More like one and a half. We planned that combo together."

"Details, details. Point is—we won."

Suddenly, footsteps echoed in the corridor. Both turned, weapons drawn.

Jayden appeared.

"Relax. It's just me."

They lowered their weapons as Jayden walked in.

"So… can we call this a victory for Team Kaos?"

Tristan grinned. "Definitely. We should celebrate."

Chris crossed his arms. "Don't get too comfortable. It won't last."

"What do you mean?" Tristan asked.

"These guys were beginners. The Fauvism won't let this go—they'll send elite assassins next time."

Jayden nodded. "Then we'll fight. We're not letting those bastards keep hurting or killing people. At least now, they won't hurt anyone else."

Chris smiled faintly. "You're right, Jayd."

"Good. Then we celebrate later."

"Agreed."

"But first," Tristan said, walking toward the corpses, "I'm taking them to Rin—Satomi's older brother."

"To eat them?" Jayden joked.

"No. I promised to bring them back alive. But… I lost control. So I'll at least show him their corpses to prove they're dead."

Chris sighed. "He might be pissed."

"Let him be. I owe him that much."

Tristan grabbed one arm from each of the three dead enemies then teleported out taking them with him elsewhere

Meanwhile, Luna and Yuna were back home.

"I wonder how Jayden and the others are doing," Yuna asked.

"They'll be fine," Luna replied calmly.

"How can you be so chill about something this serious?"

"Because they're professionals. Jayden, Tristan, Chris—they all know how to use their weapons and elements, the Raw Core and Natural Core efficiently. Don't worry."

The Raw Core refers to the inherent power of a wonder stone heir—an energy reserve that amounts to three times the physical size of their stone, as explained earlier . Then there's the Natural Core, which involves drawing energy from the surrounding environment.

For example, a lightning user in an area filled with metal could manipulate that metal freely—and even summon and control natural lightning from storm clouds. A fire user could tap into volcanic activity. A water user could wield the power of oceans, rivers, or snow. And an air user? They had the broadest reach of all, able to control the very air that existed everywhere.

Back to our story...

Yuna let out a long sigh.

"Yeah... I guess there's no reason to keep worrying," she murmured.

Luna, sitting nearby, looked thoughtful.

"Maybe we should be worrying about something else—the operation those guys we defeated mentioned."

"I've been wondering about that. What kind of operation could it be? The problem is, according to the interrogation, it's being run by elite members. That makes it seriously dangerous."

" Exactly "

" By the way what are we going to do about Liam? "

" When I spoke to Merrick , he told me that you and I should keep an eye on him for now. The plan is to build a hidden refuge powered by wonder stone energy in another country—far from here—and take Liam there to keep him out of trouble."

"That actually sounds like a good plan."

"Yeah,"

Just then, Yuna's phone rang. She picked it up and answered,

"Hello? Jayden, what's going on?"

Jayden's voice came through, calm but edged with satisfaction.

"We've destroyed the base of the team that killed Satomi—Tristan's friend. We defeated them. I just wanted to call and let you know everything's okay."

"That's great news," Yuna replied, smiling softly. "Well done—all of you."
