Luna ignored the whispering of the neighbors who had gathered, and some people who walked past their house, and ran past the carriage. When her steps suddenly paused and she lingered close to the carriage without walking further past it.
The air around it was wrong. Heavy. Like the moment before lightning strikes, when the world holds its breath.
On the other side of the house was her aunt, who was screaming and shouting at someone inside their house, and on the other hand was her mind that would not stop her from observing the carriage.
It was a nagging feeling inside her that stopped her from entering inside the house. She wanted to move further but something kept her stuck in her spot, her legs were primed for action. Yet she was on the same spot, as if the cobblestones had grown teeth and bit into her heels.
