Luke woke up early in the morning. Not only had he gone to bed quite early the previous night, but he also needed to remove the traps before Kirb or anyone else ended up getting hurt by them.
No alarm had gone off throughout the night, which meant no one had tried anything reckless. Then again, they could simply be recovering from the loss of one of their most valuable pawns.

Letting out a quiet sigh, Luke slowly sat up on the bed but didn't get down right away.
Instead, he turned to the woman sleeping peacefully beside him.
He had caught fragments of the conversation she shared with Laila after they assumed he was asleep. In truth, he had only been half asleep, so he hadn't heard everything. Even so, the bits and pieces he did hear were enough for him to understand what had been weighing on their minds.
The two women saw themselves as a burden to him.
