Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Many Facets of Life

Leng Hanshuang stood alone in the room, aloof and stunningly beautiful, her unparalleled beauty dimming even the room's lights. She stared blankly at the sleeping young man on the bed, lost in thought. Could this be the man I would serve for the rest of my life?

At this moment, Leng Hanshuang still doesn't know the name of her soon-to-be husband, which is utterly ridiculous.

She was unwilling to give up the Ice Soul Flame.

"This little woman seems to hate me to the core." Wu Heng felt a chill run down his spine. Although his eyes were closed, he could feel Leng Hanshuang's hateful gaze.

"Why hasn't she left yet?" Wu Heng dared not open his eyes, fearing that if this little woman saw that he was awake, she would skin him alive.

"Hmph, brat, I'll remember this grudge. I'll make you pay one day!" Leng Hanshuang muttered to herself, giving Wu Heng a fierce glare before drifting away.

"Phew." Only after confirming that Leng Hanshuang had left did Wu Heng dare to breathe heavily. He greedily inhaled the fresh air, and the room was still filled with the fragrance of a young girl.

"Looks like things won't be easy for me in the future. This little woman is too vengeful." Wu Heng shook his head and sighed. He never expected that he would be hated by such a terrifying little woman after just escaping from the brink of death.

The wound on his shoulder has almost completely healed. Possessing the Xuanbing Divine Body, Wu Heng's recovery ability is astonishing!

Recalling the perilous life he had endured over the past few days, Wu Heng was still in shock.

He was a direct descendant of the Wu family, one of the five great families of the Tianyu Continent. Three days ago, he was helping the Wu family's trading company transport goods, but unexpectedly, a group of powerful cultivators suddenly appeared. The cultivators around Wu Heng protected him with all their might, which allowed him to escape.

Despite the powerful cultivators around him trying their best to protect Wu Heng, he still suffered a serious shoulder injury and fled into the Hundred Thousand Mountains.

Upon entering the vast snow-capped mountains, the weather was harsh and extremely cold. Fortunately, Wu Heng was born with the Xuanbing Divine Body, possessing the coldest physique in the world, so he was naturally not afraid of the severe cold.

However, his injuries and hunger overwhelmed Wu Heng. Fortunately, the heavy snow blocked the mountain, and all the demon beasts stayed indoors. Otherwise, with his strength at the second level of the mortal realm, he would have become food for the demon beasts long ago.

The cultivation levels in the Heavenly Domain Continent are divided into Mortal, Acquired, Innate, Profound, Spiritual, and Dragon Transformation. Each level is further divided into three stages. He is a Mortal Level 2 cultivator who possesses a divine body, but he is a useless person. Otherwise, he would not have been sent by his family to transport goods.

Just as Wu Heng was about to collapse, he was fortunate enough to encounter cultivators from the Ice Palace, who saved him. Otherwise, he would have been buried in the Hundred Thousand Snow Mountains long ago.

"Gurgle." Wu Heng's stomach was already rumbling. He glanced around the room and finally stopped at the wooden table, where a plate of flowers and fruit was placed.

Wu Heng's eyes lit up, and he rushed forward without thinking, grabbing flowers and fruits and stuffing them into his mouth. Only then did he realize that these fruits, which he was usually tired of eating and didn't want to eat anymore, were now such a delicacy.

"Knock knock." Just as Wu Heng was wolfing down the melons and fruits, there was a knock on the door.

"Young master, the Grand Elder instructed me to bring you some delicious food." It was a gentle and refined girl's voice.

Wu Heng quickly tidied his hair and skillfully placed all the fruits with several holes in them at the bottom of the fruit plate. He coughed lightly and said, "Come in!"

With a creak, the door opened, and a young maid of about fourteen or fifteen years old walked in gracefully, carrying a plate of fragrant food. When she saw Wu Heng sitting solemnly at the guest table, she suddenly pursed her lips and chuckled.

Wu Heng was stunned. Looking down, he realized that his clothes were tattered and he looked no different from a beggar. Yet he was sitting there so seriously in front of the person. It would be strange if the person didn't laugh.

He chuckled bitterly to himself. Wu Heng had intended to present a handsome and dashing image to the maid, but his efforts had backfired. However, he had to maintain his composure, or else he would lose face.

"Hmph, am I that funny?" Wu Heng sneered.

"Ah? It seems so," the little maid said innocently.

"Hmm?" Wu Heng glared at him, feigning superiority.

"No, no, it's not funny at all! I deserve to die, please forgive me, young master!!"

Seeing that Wu Heng seemed to be angry, the little maid looked pitiful and quickly put the food on the table, stepped aside, and apologized repeatedly.

According to the elder, this person was a distinguished guest invited by the Ice Palace. The little maid dared not offend him and stood aside trembling like a frightened bird.

Wu Heng seemed quite pleased with the little maid's performance, but inwardly he inexplicably despised himself. "Wu Heng, do you have any humanity? You even bully a little maid with no cultivation?"

Feeling a little uneasy, Wu Heng quickly said, "Um, you don't need to be too scared, I'm not a bad person."

Seeing that Wu Heng had a handsome face and was only about sixteen years old, the little maid was no longer so afraid. Seeing Wu Heng dressed as a beggar, yet being a distinguished guest of the Ice Palace, the little maid secretly rejoiced.

She had never seen such a distinguished guest of the Ice Palace in such a sorry state.

Wu Heng didn't care about anything else. After being starving for three days, his eyes lit up when he saw the fragrant food on the table. He didn't care about his image at all and grabbed a chicken leg to eat heartily.

The little maid laughed repeatedly, thinking to herself, "This distinguished guest is really interesting!"

Wu Heng felt uneasy with this person beside him and wanted to send the maid away first. But when he saw that the girl had delicate features and stood gracefully, she was a real beauty and immediately became interested.

"What is your name? Why are you in a sacred place like the Ice Palace when you have no cultivation?" Wu Heng asked.

"My name is Xiaoyu. I am an orphan. I have been wandering around for a long time. The Grand Elder took pity on me and took me in to be a maid in the Ice Palace," Xiaoyu replied softly.

"I see." Wu Heng sighed softly. Xiao Yu's lonely life seemed to have stirred up his memories. Although he still had family, he had never seen his parents.

Wu Heng was born with the Xuanbing Divine Physique, and from birth, he became the shining star of the Wu family. Everyone regarded him as the future leader of the Wu family, and countless aristocratic families wanted to arrange a marriage between him and their children in order to win over such a future powerhouse.

Unfortunately, Wu Heng did not awaken his Dao Soul when he was six years old. A cultivator without a Dao Soul will inevitably be at a disadvantage in battle.

However, Wu Heng, who possessed a divine body, was still entrusted with hope. Even without a Dao Soul, possessing this supreme divine body would allow him to achieve great things. However, his fate was fraught with hardship. Whenever Wu Heng was about to break through the second level of the mortal realm and reach the third level, he would be forced back to his original form by a mysterious force, and he would never be able to break through to the third level.

Gradually, the Wu family lost hope in him. The once shining star had become an ordinary person, and his clansmen looked at him with disdain. He was neglected, and even the noble families who had been betrothed to the Wu family in childhood broke off their engagements.

Having experienced the coldness and warmth of human relationships and the vicissitudes of life from a young age, Wu Heng was precocious and understood very early on that those without strength would always be trampled underfoot.

Ultimately, the head of the Wu family, Wu Heng's own grandfather, sent him to the Wu family business, abandoning martial arts for commerce. Even his most beloved grandfather abandoned him, and Wu Heng lost all hope for life. In the end, he came to terms with it; abandoning martial arts for commerce wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Heaven was unfair, but he didn't have the power to change the laws of nature, so he could only accept the facts.

"Young Master, what are you thinking about?" Xiao Yu asked cautiously when she saw Wu Heng's eyes suddenly dim.

"It's nothing, I was just thinking about some things from the past," Wu Heng said calmly.

"After you finish your meal, I will bathe and help you change your clothes." Xiaoyu blushed deeply, clearly having no experience in this area.

"No, no need for that," Wu Heng politely declined.

Xiaoyu said aggrievedly, "It was the Grand Elder who said that from now on, Xiaoyu will be in charge of the young master's food, clothing, and lodging. Do you dislike me?"

"It's not that I'm disgusted, I'm just not used to it. You can leave the clothes with me," Wu Heng said.

"Yes," Xiaoyu replied softly, relieved. If the Grand Elder hadn't given the order, Xiaoyu certainly wouldn't have brought it up. Seeing that Wu Heng hadn't agreed, her anxiety subsided; how embarrassing it would be to help a man change clothes and bathe...

After bathing and changing, Wu Heng put on clean clothes. With his handsome face and refined demeanor, he did indeed have the air of a young master.

"Young Master, the Grand Elder has arrived," Xiaoyu whispered from outside the house.

Zi Tong, dressed in a magnificent purple robe, possessed an ethereal and otherworldly air, entering the room like a celestial being. She glanced at Wu Heng and remarked, "Not bad, you do have a certain look!"

"Kid, your name is Wu Heng, right?" Zi Tong asked.

"How do you know my name?" Zi Tong called out her name, which surprised Wu Heng.

"Hehe, the Xuanbing Divine Body is a rare sight in our Heavenly Domain. I've heard your story before." Her beautiful purple eyes gleamed as she said, "Wu Heng, you heard what we were discussing in the room just now, right? The Palace Master has chosen a date. You will marry the Ice Palace Saintess in three days. You have no objections, do you?"

"To marry the Holy Maiden of the Ice Palace is something countless people dream of, so why would I have any objections?" Wu Heng said with a hint of self-deprecation, but in his heart he thought, "Do I even have a choice?"

Zi Tong said, "You're quite carefree, handing over the rare treasure of heaven and earth, the Ice Soul Cold Flame, just like that."

"I am but a useless body, and this Ice Soul Frost Flame is of little use to me." Wu Heng's eyes dimmed as he shook his head.

"Don't be discouraged, young man. You are born with a divine body and will surely achieve great things in the future." Zi Tong encouraged him, saying, "You are free to move around the Ice Palace for the next three days, but it's best not to step outside this boundary!"

Wu Heng laughed and said, "Don't worry, there's a beautiful woman waiting for me to marry her. Why would I run away?"

"It's best if you think that way!" Zi Tong said earnestly, then disappeared from the room.

"This woman's cultivation is unfathomable; she's not someone to be trifled with. It seems I can forget about escaping," Wu Heng thought to himself. Since I'm here, I might as well make the best of it. I just hope my grandfather won't worry too much about me.

I, Wu Heng, am doing well. In three days, I will find you a granddaughter-in-law to bring back to the Wu family!
