Chapter 26 - When Void sent soldiers and secrets of the shark.

The first sign was the silence.

Not the calm kind—but the kind that swallowed sound itself.

Fenrik Hayashi felt it before he saw anything. The night air grew heavy, pressure building around his chest as if the world itself was holding its breath. The Wolf Slayer Axe vibrated faintly, its fur-lined blade bristling as though sensing a predator.

"This isn't normal," Fenrik muttered.

Kaizen Ryu's eyes narrowed. "They're here."

The ground ahead warped—not cracking, not breaking—but folding inward. Darkness spilled out like ink in water, stretching unnaturally. From within it, figures began to emerge.

They were humanoid, but wrong.

Tall, slender forms wrapped in shifting void-matter, armor-like shells made of compressed darkness. Their eyes were hollow circles of absolute black, swallowing the moonlight around them. Each step they took erased sound, leaving behind an eerie vacuum.

Aoi Mizuno gasped softly. "Those aren't shadows…"

"No," the Sage's voice echoed calmly from behind them. "They are Void Soldiers—constructs forged from the same essence as Malzareon."

Taro Hyun tightened his grip on the Tiger Reaper Scythe. "So these are his scouts."

"More than scouts," the Sage replied. "They fight using his principles. Power without control will be punished."

The Void Soldiers raised their arms.

The world dimmed.

First Contact

Without warning, the soldiers moved.

They didn't rush. They slid through space, distance collapsing unnaturally as they appeared directly in front of the team. Fenrik swung instinctively, the Wolf Slayer Axe carving a powerful arc—

—and passed straight through.

The soldier's body reformed instantly.

"What?!" Fenrik staggered back.

Kael slashed next, twin blades glowing—but the void absorbed the energy mid-strike, draining the light from his weapons. Lyra fired a bolt of lightning, only for it to vanish as if swallowed whole.

"They're nullifying excess output!" Lyra shouted.

A Void Soldier countered, releasing a pulse of distorted energy. The blast didn't explode—it compressed, crushing the space around Rohan and Jiro, forcing them to their knees.

Taro stepped forward, scythe spinning in a controlled arc. Unlike the others, he didn't pour power into the strike. He focused.

The Tiger Reaper Scythe cut cleanly.

The Void Soldier staggered, its form flickering violently.

Taro's eyes widened. "Controlled force works!"

"Exactly," the Sage said. "Malzareon's magic feeds on recklessness."

Adapting to the Void

Fenrik steadied his breathing. He remembered the Sage's words—the hunt is patience. He adjusted his stance, letting the Wolf Slayer Axe move naturally instead of forcing power through it.

This time, when he struck, the axe bit.

The void armor tore apart, unraveling into wisps of darkness that evaporated into nothing.

"It worked!" Fenrik shouted.

Kaizen Ryu moved next.

He didn't release visible power at all.

He stepped through the battlefield with precise, minimal movements, twin blades cutting along invisible lines. Wherever he passed, Void Soldiers collapsed silently, their cores severed before they could react.

Koharu and Selene followed his lead—fast, quiet, lethal. Aoi maintained healing fields that didn't glow, carefully suppressing excess magic to avoid drawing void absorption.

The allies began to synchronize.

Kael focused on precision strikes

Lyra reduced spell output, weaving elemental control instead of raw force

Rohan and Jiro coordinated timing, striking only when openings appeared

Mikael and Sora used speed and range, testing the soldiers' limits

Still, the Void Soldiers kept coming.

They adapted.

Their movements grew sharper, their attacks more precise. One soldier struck Fenrik directly, its void-blade piercing his shoulder—not cutting flesh, but draining strength itself.

Fenrik gritted his teeth. "This magic… it's trying to erase me."

Kaizen appeared beside him instantly, deflecting the next strike. "That's the Void. It doesn't kill—it removes."

A Message Without Words

As the final Void Soldier fell, the battlefield went completely silent again.

Then—something changed.

The remaining void energy gathered in the air, twisting into a serpentine outline before dissolving.

A presence lingered.

No voice spoke.

No figure appeared.

Yet every one of them felt it.

Malzareon was watching.

The Sage lowered his staff. "That was not an attack meant to defeat you."

Fenrik clenched his fist. "Then what was it?"

The Sage's gaze hardened. "A test."

Kaizen Ryu looked toward the empty sky. "And a warning."

The Wolf Slayer Axe hummed softly, its fur glowing faintly brighter than before—as if it had learned something new.

Taro exhaled slowly. "So this is just the beginning."

"Yes," the Sage said. "You have survived Malzareon's soldiers. But next… he will refine them."

Far away, in the silent realm of Forvogera, something vast coiled tighter in the dark.

And the Void Serpent waited.

Kaizen Ryu stood apart from the battlefield, not out of fear, but restraint.

The air around him bent in ways that defied logic—not violently, but politely, as if reality itself acknowledged his presence and stepped aside. While the others fought the Void Soldiers with steel, magic, and willpower, Kaizen observed the flow beneath it all—the fractures in space, the distortions left behind by Malzareon's influence.

Kaizen did not draw power from mana alone.

His strength came from cosmic alignment—the synchronization of body, soul, and universe.

When Kaizen moved, space subtly adjusted to accommodate him. Every step was measured, every breath aligned with something far greater than the battlefield itself. His presence stabilized the chaos that Malzareon's magic soldiers spread. Where void energy erased, Kaizen's power corrected.

One of the Void Soldiers lunged toward him, its body half-formed, half-erased. Kaizen raised a single hand.

The air folded.

Not exploded—folded.

The soldier froze mid-motion, its form compressed inward as if the universe itself rejected its existence. With a calm closing of his fingers, the creature collapsed into nothingness, erased without sound or residue.

This was Spatial Compression—one of Kaizen's fundamental abilities. Unlike teleportation or brute-force magic, it did not tear space apart. It simply rearranged reality until the enemy no longer had a place within it.

But this was not even close to Kaizen's true potential.

Within him lay an ability feared by devils and gods alike.

Universe Teleportation.

Not movement across distance—but across realms, planes, and existences. The power to step from one universe to another as effortlessly as breathing. A power that ignored barriers, seals, and dimensions.

And yet—

It remained sealed.

Kaizen felt the lock every time his instincts reached for it. A cosmic restraint placed not by enemies, but by balance itself. The Sage had once explained it in few words, heavy with warning:

"The universe will not let you walk freely through it until you prove you will not break it."

The condition was absolute.

Three Devils must fall.

Not sealed.

Not wounded.

Defeated completely.

Only then would the universe recognize Kaizen as a traveler rather than a threat.

Until that moment, Kaizen's powers remained limited—yet terrifying.

He possessed Void Resistance, rendering Malzareon's magic ineffective against him. Where others felt their strength drained or erased, Kaizen stood untouched, his existence anchored beyond the Void's reach.

Then there was Cosmic Recall—his ability to restore allies by realigning their physical and spiritual state to a moment before critical damage. It was not healing in the traditional sense. It was correction, forcing reality to acknowledge that his allies were not meant to fall yet.

This was why, in the previous battle, he had been able to heal them all without spells or chants.

The universe simply obeyed.

But even Kaizen felt the strain now.

Malzareon's soldiers were not random constructs. They carried fragments of the Void Serpent's will. Every defeat fed information back to their master. Every clash was being recorded.

Kaizen clenched his fist.

He knew what this meant.

Malzareon was testing them.

Testing him.

And the Devil was counting victories.

Kaizen looked toward Fenrik—not with words, but with understanding. Their bond went beyond friendship. It was forged in shared loss, shared death, and shared resolve. Fenrik didn't need explanations. He could feel it too.

This battle was not meant to be won easily.

It was preparation.

For the moment when Kaizen would finally unlock the power the universe itself feared to grant him.

Three Devils.

Only then would Universe Teleportation awaken.

Only then would Kaizen Ryu stop walking within reality—

—and begin walking beyond it.

And somewhere, deep within the endless darkness of Forvogera, Malzareon smiled.

Because the game had finally begun.
