I caught Angel's arm where she stood frozen near the dessert table, her eyes wide and fixed on her uncle, the madman who shared her blood.
I pushed her toward another guard nearby.
"Take her," I said, my voice cracking with terror. "Go! Get her out!"
The madman had brought a bomb.
"Dad!" Angel started, her voice breaking, her hand reaching for me.
"Go!" I roared, the sound tearing from my throat.
The guard scooped Angel up and ran, his boots pounding against marble as he carried her toward the exit, where the crowd was being let out.
Devin was already halfway down the stairs, eyes wild and darting, holding the device high above his head like a torch.
"Where are you going, brother?" he called out in a sing-song, mocking voice, dancing down the steps.
"Running away again? Always running, always hiding. Come celebrate with me, it's our birthday,"
