In the village of Vijama, located near the Sabarmati River in Himmatnagar (near Vijapur), lives Vikram Singhania, Gita Singhania, and their son, Jai. Jai is a very talented boy, but he is also a bit timid. Having completed his 12th grade, he is now headed to Vijaypur for further studies.
Near Jai's house lives a college friend named Raj, who constantly bullies Jai and has mockingly nicknamed him "Bhinga." Raj, along with his two friends, makes life difficult for Jai. Raj's father works as a manager in a company.
Both Jai and Raj enroll as first-year students at Ramoji University School. Upon seeing Raj there, Jai says to himself, "My luck is truly
terrible; I can't believe he ended up in my college too." He begins to realize that people trouble him because he never stands up for himself.
Jai's father, Vikram, is an employee in a manufacturing company. Since the family's financial resources are limited, Vikram had to use a recommendation to secure Jai's admission. Gita is a housewife, and Jai is her and Vikram's only child.
