Chapter 12 - NUCT: Chapter 12

In the end, the meal was tasteless and ended hastily.

Shinji wasn't some saintly bitch. He didn't have the stupid idea that he had to avenge someone after eating a meal. At most, he would leave some travel expenses when he left.

Hidan didn't think that what the old man said was a big deal!

So what if his son died?

In this world, which day doesn't someone die?

After dinner, Shinji and Hidan returned to their room to rest. The old man's daughter-in-law took the child back to her parents' home, probably because she was afraid of people gossiping.

Unknowingly, the night grew deep.

Shinji suddenly opened his eyes, preparing to sneak out quietly.

But to his surprise, there was someone sitting outside the door, seemingly waiting for him specifically.

"It's late at night, young man, where are you going?"

"Hmm? Are you waiting for me?"

Shinji was a little puzzled, and under the moonlight, the old man's face was very calm.

"You and your companion should both be ninjas, right?" The old man didn't answer Shinji's question, but asked himself with a firm tone.

"Our village is very remote, and even trading caravans rarely pass by, so there are few new faces. I hid and started observing you as soon as you entered the village."

Shinji raised an eyebrow slightly upon hearing this, "Why?"

The old man sighed, "I'm afraid."

Shinji was thoughtful, seemingly understanding something.

Then he heard the old man continue: "I'm not sure if your arrival will bring harm to this village, so even though I know you may be very dangerous people, I can only take the initiative to come and ask, and then pretend that I don't know anything and bring you back."

"Are you afraid that the tragedy from that time will happen again?"

"Alas, we finally had a few years of peace, and as the saying goes, once bitten by a snake, a person is afraid of ropes for ten years, how can I not be afraid."

"So you're standing here, wanting to stop me?" Shinji was a little curious.

"What can an old man like me stop." The old man shook his head, "It's nothing more than betting once."

"If I win, I'll go back to sleep, and if I lose, it's just sleeping and not waking up again. At my age, I've already seen through it."

Shinji nodded, "No wonder you found an excuse to send your family away after dinner, were you afraid of implicating your family?"

The old man was silent. In fact, he originally wanted to stabilize these two outsiders, and then take his daughter-in-law and grandson to hide outside for two days first.

But it wasn't safe outside either, there were often wild animals and robbers.

Their group was old, young, and the only strong person was a woman, so they wouldn't survive if they encountered any jackals, tigers, or leopards.

And after this half-day of contact, and after his deliberate probing several times, he found that the situation may not be so bad.

Although the other guy didn't look like a good person at all, the person in front of him had been restrained and had stopped his companion from acting several times.

This proved that the person in front of him was someone who could communicate normally, and there was a certain probability that he wasn't a indiscriminate killer.

So he chose to stay and find out the other party's intentions.

Old and strong, this was a sensible person!

And very brave!

This was Shinji's evaluation of him.

In this world, the most frustrating thing was that ordinary people couldn't control their own destiny, and it only depended on whether the 'uninvited guests' brought goodwill or malice.

"Don't worry, I'm not interested in this place. We'll leave after dawn."

"Then I'm relieved, old man. Oh, it's so late, sleep, let's sleep."

After getting a reassuring answer, the old man finally breathed a sigh of relief.

As for why the other party would suddenly run out at this late hour, and what he was going to do, he didn't ask at all, he didn't want to know at all.

How could he not understand the principle that the more you know, the faster you die.

He only needed to confirm that the other party didn't have malicious intentions, and that was enough and satisfactory.

But at this moment, Shinji suddenly asked: "Was the story you told in the evening true?"

"Every word is true."

"Then do you hate those ninjas? Or have you ever thought about taking revenge on them?"

"At my age, does it matter whether I hate or not? Can an old man like me take an orphan and a widow to fight anyone?"

The old man smiled bitterly, and then continued: "I've never thought about revenge, and I don't dare to think about it. Now I just want to spend my old age peacefully and help take care of the child as he grows up."

"I understand."

Shinji nodded lightly and then left in a certain direction.

And looking at Shinji's back, there was a trace of pain in the old man's eyes that flashed by.

Obviously, how could the pain of losing a son be as understated as he said just now?

But even if he was in pain and unwilling, what could he do?

The old man did find out the identities of those ninjas through various inquiries afterward, but so what?

The two groups of ninjas who brought disaster to the village were a group of Kirigakure spies from the Land of Water, and the other group was Konoha ninjas who came here to pursue the enemy.

And the huge fireball that killed his son was released by a Konoha ninja who was protecting his companions in order to kill the enemy!

Being accidentally killed by the guardian ninjas of his own country, as a citizen of the Land of Fire, what could an old man like him do?

As for the compensation afterward, it was nothing more than helping them rebuild the village, and some compensation in terms of money and food.

And those who died... died.

This was war!

So they didn't dare to even think about revenge.

They only had fear for ninjas, nothing else.

Even if we took a step back, who should this revenge be sought from?

Was it those Kirigakure ninjas who happened to run here?

Or the Konoha ninja who released the fireball and accidentally killed his son?

From the former's point of view, because it was during the war and the two sides were hostile, they naturally wouldn't care about the lives of the enemy's villagers.

And from the latter's point of view, they naturally had to go all out and fight to the death in the face of the enemy.

If they were afraid of affecting others and were restrained, they might kill their companions or even themselves!

Looking at it this way, it seemed that no one was wrong.

So who was wrong?

Probably this damn world!

"The moon is really round tonight."

"Get out of the way! You're blocking my way."

The old man had just looked up and praised with emotion when he immediately heard the sound of the door opening behind him, and that impolite expulsion.

The old man was startled and shivered, and hurriedly looked back, and saw Hidan's face, which looked like he had just finished attending a funeral.

"Why are you out too?" The old man quickly changed to a smiling face and asked.

Because he suddenly realized a serious problem, that the 'tiger' who was feigning power was just now gone, and happened to be away!

And without the 'tiger's' obstruction, how should this old fox, who had no military threat, face a wild wolf who couldn't wait to kill him before?

Oh no!

He should quickly soften his tone and say a few nice words, this guy looks like he's not very smart, maybe he can fool him.

However, what the old man didn't expect was that the other party didn't seem to be interested in him at all.

"You two have been standing at the door talking for so long, am I deaf? Hurry up and get out of the way, which way did he go?" Hidan said extremely impatiently.

The old man decisively sold Shinji, pointing in one direction, "That way!"

"Next time you dare to say that my head doesn't work well, I'll kill your whole family, you hear?"

After glaring fiercely, Hidan hurriedly chased after him, his figure quickly disappearing into the night.

And the old man, who had been warned, also wiped the cold sweat on his forehead, and then, as if he suddenly thought of something, gritted his teeth and turned to walk outside as well.
