Chapter 3 — The Demon King's Assassin
She raised her sword.
The king screamed: "Kill her!"
Knights charged.
She wasn't looking at them.
She was looking at me.
I activated Celestial Sight.
The world became threads.
A silver thread ran from her wrist to my chest.
A curse. She wasn't here by choice.
Every kill made the thread darker.
She failed = she died.
She was a hostage.
I took one step back.
Her eyes widened.
"You can see it?"
I said nothing.
The knights reached her. Three fell in one slash.
I walked forward.
"Stop," she said. "I'll kill you."
"You won't."
"Why?"
"Because you're afraid of dying."
Silence.
"What happens if you return without me?"
She didn't answer.
"You die."
I kept walking.
"I can remove the curse."
Her pupils shrank.
"Who are you?"
"That's what I'm trying to find out."
The ceiling collapsed.
A black hand. Then a dragon.
Black scales. Golden eyes. My father's insignia on its neck.
A voice, not from its mouth. From my head.
`"You have his eyes. The dead god."`
[New Target: King Aldric Ardent]

The dragon looked at me. Then knelt.
Everyone knelt. Except me.
`"Your mother lied."`
`"She wasn't human."`
[Major Secret Detected.]
Bloodline awakening.
`"If he ever remembers who his father is, the gods will come for him."`
That was her voice. 16 years ago.
I looked up.
"Who is my father?"
The dragon turned to the throne.
"Not him."
It bowed its head.
"...is the God who died before this world was created."
