"Ugh..." , a groan sounded from a white hospital bed as the figure on it tried to open her eyes. With bandages wrapped around her head, she looked around her with confusion in her eyes as she tried to sit up, groaning in the process. She raised her right hand to hold her head as she squinted, indicating that her head was in pain.
Then, she opened her eyes to examine the room. White walls, the smell of an antiseptic, the beeping machines...
Everything was so odd and even though she suspected that she could be in a hospital of some sort, she felt that she needed to verify it somehow.
*Creak*
The door creaked open as a man wearing a blue shirt and black pants with a white doctor's coat entered. He smiled upon noticing the figure sitting awake. "I am Doctor Oliver".
"What happened?" she questioned looking warily at him, with her raspy voice. He walked to her bedside and filled a glass with water from the jug there before handing her a cup of water and saying, "I was hoping you will tell me."
He started writing something on the notepad she didn't realize he was holding.
"What is your name?", he asked.
She drank the water and placed the glass on the table next to her, then looked up at him.
She opened her mouth but nothing came out of her mouth as she widened her eyes in shock. She looked around anxiously as she lifted her other hand to grab her head.
The doctor immediately walked to her side and asked if she felt any pain anywhere. She nodded.
"I don't know my name. I can't remember anything", she responded while trying to look around for something that cpuld remind her of her identity.
At this moment, her hand rubbed the bandage on her head as she enquired about her condition.
"Why do I have a bandage on my head?"
The doctor checked her eyes with a flashlight before having her lie on the bed.
"Why don't you just relax here? Dont stress yourself too much".
After suggesting that, he wrote some more on his notepad before walking out of the door after telling her to rest and that someone would come with her medicine for her.
Left alone she forced berself to recollect even one single information about herself but failed.
She felt exhausted and could not keep herself up any longer. She figured a good sleep might help her remember who she was. Maybe through a dream...
Soon only the sound of the beeping machines filled the room.
Waking up to the sound of feet shuffling, she opened her eyes looking at the person responsible for waking her up.
It was the doctor Oliver with a nurse behind him.
"I have something very important to tell you", he said worriedly looking at her. Obviously unsure how she would handle it all.
"You are..."
Before he could finish speaking, she began retching. Her right hand flew up to cover her mouth as she moved quickly in an attempt to get out of bed and go to the bathroom.
At once the nurse behind doctor Oliver place the items in her hands on the other table in the room and quickly fetched a bowl for Sophie to use.
Still in pain from her earlier attempt to get up and coupled with the nausea, Sophie looked pallid.
After that interruption, Oliver went on to re-announce her diagnosis.
"Well," he paused briefly to cough as he looked up at her "based on the results i received from the tests i had them run on you, you are..."
