She had changed into a light gray tracksuit and Martin boots, and her hair had been tied back in a way that made her look neat and ready to move. She glanced over at Bai Li and then at the little girl. "Mom, take good care of LiLi. Remember not to open the door for anyone."
"Okay, I remember. You two be careful," Yan Laojin hurriedly reminded her. Then she looked between the two of them and sighed a little inside. She knew exactly what it meant when supplies were running low. There was no point pretending they could just stay inside forever and wait for rescue. If they wanted to survive, they had to go out and look for food. That was all there was to it.
"We're leaving now, little LiLi. See you later," Bai Li said as she waved at the little girl.
"See you later, Auntie," the little girl replied in her sweet voice.
