As dawn broke over the coast, the group stood ready, watching the horizon.
Darian felt... incredible. Despite a sleepless night of "healing" Kaya, he was bursting with energy. His stamina bar was maxed out, and he felt his physical stats had leveled up again.
The Outer Path, he mused, clenching his fist. It really is a cheat code.
While he was lost in thought, Nami quietly approached him. She leaned in close, sniffing the air like a suspicious cat.
"Darian," she whispered, her eyes narrowing. "You smell... nice."
Darian froze.
"In fact," Nami continued, her voice dropping to a dangerous purr. "You smell like perfume. A woman's perfume."
Crap.
Darian's mind raced. He had spent hours in close contact with Kaya. Of course her scent was all over him.
"Oh, that?" Darian laughed, putting on his best poker face. "Miss Kaya fainted when she saw the body. I had to carry her back to her room. Her perfume must have rubbed off on me then."
He said it so smoothly he almost believed it himself.
Nami sniffed him again, suspicious. "Really? It's awfully strong for just carrying her. You didn't do anything... weird, did you?"
"Nami!" Darian looked offended. "I was fighting a murderer! Merry was bleeding out! Do you think I had time for anything else?"
Nami stared at him for a long moment. Finally, she sighed. "Fine. I believe you. But go wash up later."
"Ship ahoy!" Usopp yelled, pointing his telescope at the sea. "They're coming!"
Darian let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. Saved by the pirates.
Meanwhile, back at the mansion.
Sunlight streamed into the master bedroom. Kaya slowly opened her eyes.
She felt... different. The constant fatigue that had plagued her for a year was gone. Her body felt light, energized.
Then she moved, and a dull ache in her lower body brought the memories flooding back.
She sat up, clutching the sheet to her chest. Her face turned crimson.
Oh my god.
The events of the night played in her mind like a fever dream. The fear, the heat, the overwhelming desire... and Darian. She remembered clinging to him, begging him. She remembered the pleasure.
"I... I was so shameless," she whispered, burying her face in her hands.
Tears welled in her eyes. She was a proper young lady! She barely knew him! And yet...
Did she hate him?
She thought of his gentle hands, his concern, the way he had saved her life. She thought of how safe she felt in his arms.
No, she realized. I don't hate him.
But it was confusing. She should be angry. She should feel violated. But instead, she felt... alive. For the first time since her parents died, she felt truly alive.
She wiped her tears. She couldn't stay in bed. Kuro was gone, but his pirates were still coming. She had a responsibility to her village.
Kaya got out of bed. Her legs were shaky, but she forced herself to stand. She dressed quickly, wincing slightly at the soreness, but marveling at her newfound strength.
Mr. Darian, she thought, a determined look on her face. I need to see you.
Back on the coast, the battle had begun.
Unlike the chaotic mess of the original story, this fight was completely one-sided. With Darian on the team, the Black Cat Pirates didn't stand a chance.
"Earthquake Fist!"
CRACK!
Darian punched the air. A shockwave rippled out, shattering the ground and sending a dozen pirates flying like ragdolls.
"Lightning Fist!"
ZAP!
Bolts of blue electricity arched from his other hand, stunning another group instantly.
It was a massacre.
Luffy and Zoro were doing their part too.
"Gomu Gomu no... Gatling!"
"Santoryu... Tiger Trap!"
Pirates fell in waves. Jango the Hypnotist tried to swing his pendulum, but Usopp sniped it out of his hand with a well-placed lead star. The Meowban Brothers tried to rush Zoro, but were cut down in seconds.
Within minutes, the beach was littered with unconscious bodies.
"Yeah!" Nami and Usopp cheered, high-fiving.
Darian surveyed the battlefield. His attacks had been lethal—cardiac arrests and shattered bones. Luffy and Zoro, on the other hand, had mostly just knocked people out.
They're too soft, Darian thought. These are pirates who planned to slaughter a village. Mercy is a luxury.
But he kept his thoughts to himself. The battle was won.
"Treasure!" Nami squealed, her eyes turning into berry symbols ($$). She sprinted toward the Black Cat ship moored offshore.
"Wait up!" Darian called out. "I'm coming with you. Don't want you getting ambushed."
They reached the waterline, looking at the massive pirate ship. It was a Bezan Black, a sleek, well-maintained vessel.
"Nami," Darian said, grinning. "What do you think is the most valuable thing here?"
Nami paused. She looked at the ship. Her jaw dropped.
"The ship itself!" she gasped.
"Exactly," Darian nodded. "A ship like this... easily 50 million Berries. Maybe more if we find a buyer in the black market."
"100 million..." Nami drooled, practically fainting from joy.
"No way!"
A voice cut through their capitalist fantasy. Luffy walked up behind them, arms crossed, looking serious.
"Why?" Nami spun around, glaring daggers. "Give me one good reason, or I'll punch you!"
"Because," Luffy said firmly. "A ship is a pirate's nakama. You can't just sell their home."
Nami stared at him. Darian stared at him.
"Luffy," Darian sighed. "They tried to murder a village. They don't deserve a home."
"I don't care," Luffy said stubbornly. "We beat them. That's enough. We're not stealing their ship."
Nami looked ready to murder her future captain. Darian just shook his head.
Idiot logic, he thought. But I guess that's why he's the main character.
