Chapter 39 - Chapter 38: Secret Rendezvous? Yeah, Right.

Tsunade lifted her wrist, admiring the bracelet. The pearl's luster perfectly complemented her fair skin.

She feigned indifference and said, "Don't think this buys you any points, kid."

Night watched her trying to play it cool despite clearly loving the gift. He wisely didn't call her out on it. "I wouldn't dare. I just thought the blue crystal on this bracelet was as bright and beautiful as your eyes."

It was a bit too direct, bordering on a cheesy pickup line. Even Night felt a little cringe after saying it.

Tsunade clearly hadn't expected such a smooth line. The tips of her ears turned slightly red, and she quickly changed the subject.

"I heard your harvest from the mission was impressive. Even the Old Man couldn't stop singing your praises."

"I did make some extra cash. Enough to treat you to a big meal." Night blinked, deliberately misinterpreting her meaning.

Just as Tsunade was about to clarify, a medical ninja burst through the door, speaking rapidly, "Lady Tsunade, emergency in the ICU."

Tsunade stood up instantly, snapping back to her professional, capable self. "I'm coming."

She paused at the door, glanced back at Night, and gently shook the wrist wearing the bracelet.

"Thanks for the gift."

Watching Tsunade leave, Night zoned out for a moment before leaving the hospital, whistling a happy tune.

"Wearing that bracelet... she should think of me occasionally while she works, right?"

---

He composed himself but didn't rush to head back to the Land of Water. Being too eager as a traveling merchant would look suspicious.

He spent several days in Konoha preparing, carefully selecting the next batch of goods.

During this time, he visited Tsunade occasionally, but she seemed to be avoiding him—whether intentionally or subconsciously.

Night understood that he shouldn't push too hard. Some things couldn't be rushed.

---

The journey back to the Land of Water wasn't as smooth this time. Perhaps his cargo was too eye-catching, but he attracted a group of bandits with a death wish.

"Kid, that's a lot of stuff. Leave the..."

Before the leader could finish his sentence, Night decapitated him. He had no interest in wasting breath on trash.

Anyone who became a bandit was guilty. They bullied the weak and feared the strong, and their hands were stained with the blood of countless innocent merchants.

Night disposed of the remaining bandits one by one. Not a single one escaped.

"When I was weak, I had to walk on eggshells," Night muttered to himself as he wiped the blood off his blade. "Now that I have strength, others should be the ones watching their tone. Otherwise, what was the point of getting strong?"

However, even though he ended the fight quickly, the scent of blood lingered on him.

---

When he arrived at the Land of Water border, the sharp-nosed guards immediately noticed something was off.

"You reek of blood." The duty ninja eyed him warily.

Night explained calmly, "It's a long journey. I ran into a few blind thugs on the way. You have to have some means of self-defense when you're out on the road."

He revealed the ninja sword at his waist. Seeing the ancient blade, the guard figured Night had some samurai training, which wasn't unusual. Traveling alone without any skill these days was basically asking to be a fat sheep for slaughter.

The guard sized him up. Night looked calm and didn't seem to be lying. After a routine check of the goods revealed nothing illegal, they let him pass.

---

Entering the familiar town, Night's inventory was more targeted this time.

Besides the ever-popular "Pomade," he brought skincare products specifically for the Land of Water's humid climate, precision tools exported from the Land of Craftsmen to the Land of Fire, and even some ninja tool parts that skirted the legal line.

As expected, these carefully selected goods were snapped up instantly. He sold out even faster than last time—barely lasting a day—and made another killing.

However, unbeknownst to Night, Danzo back in Konoha had already leaked his location through special channels.

---

Kaguya Clan Estate.

"Where did this letter come from?" Naoto Kaguya frowned at the envelope in his hand, marked 'For Naoto Kaguya's Eyes Only.' He was hesitant.

His trusted aide replied immediately, "I don't know. Someone threw it into the courtyard with a kunai early this morning."

"Who else saw this besides you?"

"No one, I think. I brought it straight to you the moment I found it," the aide said uncertainly.

Naoto tapped his finger on the desk. After a long pause, he said, "Keep this quiet. Let... never mind, I'll handle it personally."

He had considered sending a clansman, but remembering that everyone in the Kaguya clan was a battle-crazed maniac, he decided against it.

Tucking the letter into his robe, Naoto pushed open the door and left the estate.

---

"Today is a good day, everything's going my way~" Night hummed a tune, in a great mood.

He had brought double the stock this time and sold out in a single day. It was a pleasant surprise.

Since he had extra time, Night decided to tour the Land of Water properly. He couldn't enter the Hidden Mist Village, but the surrounding towns and local culture were worth experiencing.

As he walked down a long street, a villager suddenly bumped into him subtly while passing by.

Night suppressed his instinct to counterattack and keenly felt a note being slipped into his hand.

He pocketed the note without batting an eye and continued strolling, buying small trinkets here and there as if nothing had happened.

Only when he reached a secluded corner did he glance at the note's content.

It read: Come to the forest northeast of town tonight. Important intel exchange.

Night naturally crumpled the note and destroyed it. Acting as if nothing had happened, he continued to play tourist until dusk, then returned to his inn.

He specifically chose the same inn as last time. It wasn't far from the forest mentioned in the note.

In fact, the entire forest was within the range of his "Mind's Eye of the Kagura."

Night pretended to go to bed, but in reality, he was monitoring the movement in the forest.

Around midnight, a figure quietly appeared at the meeting spot.

Sensing no ambush around the figure—it really was just one guy waiting alone—everything matched the description of a standard intel meetup.

Seeing this, Night finally relaxed... and went straight to sleep, leaving the guy waiting in the woods.

That figure stood motionless all night, getting eaten alive by mosquitoes, before finally leaving in a huff at dawn.

If you listened closely, you could vaguely hear him cursing Night's entire family line.
