Chapter 28 - Damned pawn

David's POV

I'd always hated rooms like this.

Too big and polished. Too quiet.Too sophisticated for my liking. I always prefer things with an edge. Keeps the thrill alive you know. 

And this place - this was a kind of quiet that reminded you someone else owned the air you were breathing in.

I stood there anyways, hands in my pockets, rocking back on my heels like I had all the time in the world.

In front of me, His Royal Silence continued to ignore me.

Back turned.

Spine straight.

Draped in dark velvet and pure gold embroidery like he'd stepped out of those ancestral oil paintings you see in a museum. 

He held a crystal glass up to the light, studying the wine like it had secrets to confess.

And he was staring at a painting.

A woman.

Beautiful in a way that felt irrational - yet familiar somehow.But one thing was certain,she was impossible to ignore, impossible not to stare at.
