Chapter 40 - Similar

Caspian's POV

"Alpha, we are almost done setting the camp up!"

I nodded. The fire crackled in front of me.

Orange flames danced lazily, snapping and popping as the dry wood burned down into glowing embers. The heat brushed against my face, but the rest of the night felt cold as hell.

I sat there, elbows on my knees, staring straight into the fire like it owed me answers.

Around me, everyone was too preoccupied with the necessities involving camping in the middle of that strange forest all through the night. 

Not a proper camp.More like a temporary "don't die tonight" arrangement. 

A few tents went up between the crooked trees. Some of the rogues stayed in their human forms stacking firewood while others paced the perimeter in wolf form, ears pinned, noses twitching at every little sound.

Nobody was relaxed.

Nobody was talking louder than a murmur.

Because just a few hours ago—Everything had gone to shit.

Night had fallen right after we found the thirteenth scout.
