One of the most prevalent incidents involves a scammer posing as a customer service agent from a popular e-commerce site or a bank.
A maharashtrian boy Rahul, who recently complained on Twitter about a failed ₹2,000 food delivery. Minutes later, he receives a call from a professional-sounding "executive." The caller claims to be processing his refund and asks Rahul to "verify" his identity by scanning a QR code sent via WhatsApp.
The scammer tells him, "Just enter your UPI PIN to receive the money." In the rush of the moment, Rahul forgets the golden rule: You never need to enter a PIN to receive money. The moment he hits "Confirm," ₹20,000 vanishes from his account instead.
