Chapter 25 - Royal Secrets Revealed

Sofia closed the door behind her, leaving Arya to her sorrowful thoughts. As she stepped into the grand hallway, Sofia's mind replayed their intense conversation. Her thoughts drifted from Arya's tragic love story to her own dark secret...

A chilling realization dawned on her:

"What if Prince Cable discovers what I truly am?"

Sofia's eyes gleamed slightly in the dim light as she whispered to herself:

"A vampire... living among royals, loving their prince."

Her heart – long dead yet still filled with emotion – raced with fear:

"Would Cable still love me if he knew my immortal nature, my eternal thirst for blood?"

At midnight, Sofia met Prince Cable in the moonlit garden. Their eyes locked, sparks flying between them. Sofia's voice was barely above a whisper, filled with vulnerability:

"What if I told you... I'm different from other people, would you still love me?"

Cable's expression shifted from gentle affection to intense curiosity. At first, he smiled softly, thinking she was joking or being poetic.

But Sofia's serious gaze made Cable's heart skip a beat – he sensed an underlying truth in her words. He took a step closer, his voice low and filled with unwavering conviction:

"Sofia, no matter what you might say... and I mean this with all my heart... no matter what happens, I will always love you."

Tears pricked at Sofia's eyes. She threw her arms around Cable, tears of joy streaming down her face. She buried her head in his chest, feeling his warm heart beating against her cold skin. Cable wrapped his arms tightly around her, whispering softly: "I mean it, Sofia. Always."

For a moment, Sofia forgot she was a vampire – forgot her secrets and her fears. All she felt was Cable's love embracing her. As she pulled back slightly, Cable gently wiped away her tears with his thumbs.

"Sofia, tell me... what did you mean?" he asked, eyes filled with gentle concern.

Sofia's heart raced – the moment of truth had arrived... but she hesitated at the final threshold. Sofia smiled softly and said:

"It's nothing, my love. Just happy to be with you."

Cable's concerned expression transformed into a gentle smile. He kissed her forehead, unaware of just how deep and dangerous Sofia's "difference" truly was.

He pulled her close again, his lips brushing against hers in a tender kiss. Sofia's heart swelled with emotion – she felt guilty for not confessing, yet relieved he didn't press for more.

As they broke apart, Cable whispered: "I'm happy too, Sofia. Happier than I've ever been." Sofia's eyes locked onto his – did she dare hope their love could survive her secret forever?

Lost in each other's eyes, Cable and Sofia shared a romantic moment in the moonlit garden. Unbeknownst to them, a figure watched from the shadows – King Julian Ross, Cable's father.

The next morning, King Julian summoned Cable to his study. Cable arrived promptly, wondering about the urgent meeting. His mind raced as he walked; he recalled that peculiar day, a few days ago, when he returned from Tenebrous. He had been attacked in the dark forest surrounding Tenebrous by a vampire. A mysterious figure had saved his life, vanishing into thin air afterward.

Still shaken, Cable had confided in his father. The King's expression had been grave, his eyes filled with a mix of shock and fear. "Leave, Cable," King Julian had said abruptly. "Speak of this to no one."

Now, as he entered the study, Cable thought to himself: "Maybe Father wants to talk about that vampire attack... and the stranger who saved me?"

King Julian looked up from the papers on his desk, his eyes intense and piercing

King Julian's eyes narrowed slightly as he spoke: "I saw something in the garden last night, Cable."

Cable's heart sank, fear gripping his chest. The king's next words made his anxiety spike: "What is going on between you and Sofia?"

Cable swallowed hard, expecting royal displeasure. He steeled himself and replied honestly: "We're... in a relationship, Father."

Bracing for punishment or outrage, Cable was shocked instead: King Julian smiled – a warm, knowing smile. "I know," he said simply.

Cable's fear turned to confusion: "How could you know?! We've kept it secret."

King Julian's eyes seemed to gaze into the past as he spoke: "After all, you are my son, so you will obey me, right?" Cable nodded slowly, still confused about where this conversation was heading.

The king's next words unveiled a personal tale: "When I was your age, I loved exploring the kingdom incognito. I'd wear common clothes and walk among our people, unnoticed.",

Cable's curiosity was piqued.

"I met your mother during one such stroll," King Julian continued, a gentle smile on his face. "We fell deeply in love at first sight... and would meet secretly, exchanging sweet words."

Cable's eyes widened as he grasped the striking similarity to his own situation with Sofia.

"The astonishing part, Cable," King Julian said, "was that your mother had no idea I was the prince. She thought of me as just a common man, like herself."

King Julian's eyes clouded with nostalgia and sadness as he continued: "When your mother discovered I was a prince, she was devastated. She said to me with tears in her eyes: 'You are a Prince, your place is in the palaces... and I am a maid, my place is in this small village. We both can never be one, so it would be better if you forget me.'"

Cable felt a lump form in his throat as he imagined his mother's pain. He realized that Sofia might be thinking similarly – that their worlds were too far apart.

King Julian's voice was barely above a whisper: "I was heartbroken, Cable. I knew I had to choose between the throne and love." He paused, looking intensely at Cable. "I told your mother... I would give up ruling, live a simple life with her. But my father, your grandfather, would not hear of it. He forcefully arranged my marriage to Queen Ava, hoping to end my defiance."

Cable's mind reeled at the family drama. King Julian's eyes shone with tears: "But my love for your mother never faded. We continued meeting secretly... And then, we married each other in a private ceremony, exchanging vows only between us. You were born from that love, Cable."

His voice was barely audible: "We lived happily – Ava unaware of our secret family – until... your mother passed away, leaving me heartbroken."

King Julian concluded: "That's when I brought you here, to the palace, to raise you as my rightful heir..."

King Julian took Cable's hands in his own, the warmth of his palms carrying the weight of a father's unwavering support. He looked deeply into Cable's eyes and spoke:

"Cable, the greatest regret of my life is not that I loved a common woman, but that I could never give her the honor and the place she deserved. Out of fear of my own father, I kept her in the shadows. But I will not pass that burden of pain down to you."

The King's voice rang with a newfound determination:

"Do not worry, for I am not like your grandfather. I have watched my own love be sacrificed upon the altar of power, and I will never let that happen to my son. If your happiness is intertwined with Sofia, if she is the North Star of your life, then I accept the relationship between you two with all my heart."

He placed a hand on Cable's shoulder, a knowing smile playing on his lips:

"Leave the whispers of the court and the rigidness of laws to me. If it is your wish, and if you are certain that Sofia is the one you want by your side, I will personally pave the way for your union. I want to grant you the freedom I never had—the freedom to claim your love with pride before the whole world."

Cable's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he heard his father's words. He threw his arms around King Julian, embracing him tightly:

"Thank you, Father... thank you for understanding."

King Julian smiled warmly and hugged him back. When Cable pulled back, a huge grin was plastered on his face:

"Actually, Father... I want to make it official. I want to propose to Sofia—will you give me your blessing?"

Cable's eyes sparkled with excitement as he awaited his father's response. King Julian laughed heartily, clearly delighted. He straightened his posture, adopting a tone of regal dignity befitting a monarch:

"Cable, you have my absolute blessing. As a Prince of this realm, it is only right that you honor your intentions with the grace and gravity our lineage demands. I shall not only give you my blessing, but I will ensure the Royal Court supports this union with the prestige it deserves. I'll help you plan a proposal that reflects both your heart and your station."

The King paused, his expression turning thoughtful as he reminded his son of the Royal Protocol:

"But tell me, Son... do you believe Sofia is prepared for the weight of the crown? Do you think she will say yes, knowing she will no longer just be by your side, but will be stepping into the public eye as a future Princess?"

Cable beamed with confidence, standing tall:

"Father, I'm certain she'll say yes—she loves me for who I am, not the title I carry. However, I know she values honesty above all else. I think she's been waiting for me to confess my true feelings fully... and for us to be together without secrets or shadows between us. She is more than ready to face the world by my side."
