Chapter 24
The tremor shook the whole academy.
Students huddled together in their dormitory rooms, and panicked screams resounded in the dead of night.
Albert and Sevile immediately moved, dashing from the meeting hall windows toward the East Tower.
After a brief delay, Diaz stood and cast an acceleration spell on both of them.
Ashvile had already conjured black mana roots to restrain Methilia.
Theodore watched with an ugly expression.
Before Ashvile could fully restrain her, Diaz moved past her and began weaving an advanced spell. Methilia became unconscious and weakly dropped down.
Azek supported her.
By that time Theodore had already finished casting an advance version of isolation spell. He enveloped the whole academy in thick tree roots. The meeting hall and East Tower were separated from the rest of the academy.
Ashvile extended her hands to take Methilia from Azek, but Diaz stopped her.
"He already has the seed within him, so it is better that only he makes contact with her."
Another tremor spread out.
The professors who had been watching the entire scene with wide eyes, trying to process the information, immediately jolted into action.
They started rushing toward the East Tower.
"Azek, take care of Methilia. Ashvile and Diaz will stay with you."
Theodore ordered this before heading to the East Tower with Cardinal Magnus. Only bishop Elion stayed behind with them.
Azek slowly lowered the body hanging in his arms onto the ground. Black veins had burst throughout the body, and her jaw was tightly clenched.
Diaz and Ashvile cast barriers around them.
Azek looked at her in deep thought.
What if he tried to purify the contamination like he did with himself?
He tried to think of a method, but his ideas were too crude to apply. He didn't know if, upon attempting it, her mana core would explode and end her life instantly. He had only touched the source, yet it had already caused such a reaction.
He sat beside the barrier, his mind churning out ideas one after another, only to reject them just as quickly.
After a while, he gave up.
Right now, he was too weak to do anything.
" yes i am too weak." he though helplessly.
Methilia's breathing was slowly becoming ragged.
…....
Chieeeeeereeeeek—
An ear-piercing sound came from the basement.
Sevile had already cast four spells in succession, and the monster resembling a combination of dragon and gorilla wreaking havoc was bound at all four limbs with water mana chains. But he couldn't finish it immediately because more were pouring out from the basement one after another.
And the skin was was thick enough to have him use enormous strength to cut through.
Albert's eyes sharpened.
he noticed newly born, immature, malformed monsters in the horde coming out and they were mixed in meticulously with the rest.
But the detail didn't slip through him. After vanguard was somewhat hindered, he noticed multiple anomalies and realization dawned upon him,the source was losing control and beginning to produce monsters indiscriminately.
They had to find the source fast. Otherwise, who knew how many more abominations would spawn?
But he couldn't simply leave Sevile alone and charge into the basement.
Crack….
He looked toward the ground.
The dome separating the East Tower from the academy opened, and professors began rushing in.
Roots sprouted from the ground, and Theodore immediately separated the monsters, binding them in place.
A plethora of spells landed, and the pressure lightened considerably.
The main horde immediately tried to break free but Sevile and Albert didn't let them go.
After first volley of attacks landed they were injured and immediately professors moved in practiced formation to take care of crippled monsters instantly and focusing bombarding spell on the rest.
"There is a source inside the basement spawning monsters, and I need a path to get inside!"
Without delay, Albert cast a small spell, and his voice resounded clearly throughout the field through magical amplification.
Asther and Homerwright immediately split from the main force and charged at the monsters surrounding Albert, allowing him to release his spells.
Professor Ether released a massive fog spell, lowering the monsters' vision to near zero, and fired arrows into the fog, targeting their skulls through their eyes.
Arnold cast a fire thorn chain and swung it.
Blood splattered everywhere as one monster after another was taken down in quick succession.
A clear path formed in front of Albert.
He threw a fire chain toward the wall ahead and retracted it sharply, his body shot forward towards the basement door like a launched spear.
A massive spell had already formed at his fingertips mid flight. The moment he released the chain, he unleashed the spell.
Small fire bombs exploded in rapid succession in a chain reaction.
He pushed through the fireworks, taking advantage of the brief confusion, and leaped down the stairs.
Serbian immediately followed and snapped her fingers.
Stone fragments exploded outward, blurring visibility and crushing the skulls of incoming monsters.
"Albert, be careful!" she bellowed as she formed a large spell, launching stone spears in relentless succession.
Albert heard the warning but he was already inside,
and then he saw it, and his breath quickened.
without thinking for even a moment he moved on instinct and blasted through the basement roof, collapsing it before leaping back.
He couldn't believe what he was seeing before his eyes.
