Chapter 33 - the difference

Chapter 33

Sevile put the book down and drew the spell meticulously.

Mana gathered and an exquisite shield formed.

"This is the basic shield spell."

He cast a medium sized shield.

"Can you tell me the difference between the previous spell and this one?"

He had already taught them this spell before.

Everybody looked confused and tried hard to find the difference.

Daniel and Callisto raised their hands simultaneously.

"Yes, Daniel?" the professor gestured.

"The previous spell was written with three commands, while this one needs four commands."

Callisto looked slightly disappointed.

"Wrong. Although the process looks like it involves four, it's actually only three. Anyone else?"

Marian raised her hand.

"Yes?"

"The mana density is thicker compared to before."

"Not bad. Mana density is definitely higher, but it is still not the fundamental difference."

Sevile finished the explanation and wrote the spell again.

"Look closely."

The spell was written again at a slow speed.

Azek, who was pondering command theory, raised his hand. Every ear became attentive.

Callisto and Daniel tensed up.

"Yes, Azek?"

"The previous spell only had one mana circle command, but this includes two smaller commands. In other words, two circles are being connected. It is the basic technique for an intermediate spell."

Everyone looked at Sevile.

Sevile looked at him, and a small smile formed on his lips.

"Exactly. This is the technique for intermediate spells. Your first exam is coming at the end of this month. By then, you will be tested on all basic spells and their practical applications. The theory questions for intermediate spells will also be included.

So prepare yourselves thoroughly, and now try to think beyond the basics."

He concluded.

Riiiiiiinnnnnnng.....

Class ended.

Azek immediately gathered his things and went to the library.

Daniel clenched his fists, then picked up his bag and went to the library as well.

It had almost become a routine now.

Ever since Azek returned, he hadn't taken part in any practical class involving high mana input.

He only practiced with minimal mana, while the rest of his time was spent in the library, skimming through books and working on theory.

They hadn't paid much attention at first, but slowly the difference became visible.

Azek's understanding of mana was unparalleled.

He almost always drowned himself in books.

His friends accompanied him, yet even during practical lessons, he understood commands better than anyone and executed flawless techniques with minimal mana.

And today was the last nail in the coffin.

He was able to interpret an intermediate spell!

This couldn't go on.

Daniel went to the library and observed. Usually, he would go to his dorm room to work in silence.

But he couldn't afford to be lax right now. He needed a trigger.

Azek was busy pulling books from the shelves, piling bundle after bundle onto his desk.

Edrin was arranging their papers neatly.

Edrin had recently pulled ahead of him in spell class—only once—but alarm bells had been ringing in his head ever since.

When Azek was done, Mathew handed him water and a small snack.

Azek finished in two minutes, and soon they were all flipping through scriptures and taking notes.

Book after book was finished within hours, and they took a break in the evening.

Daniel was almost choking.

How were they going through them so fast?

He hadn't even finished the scripture in his hand, and they were already discussing theoretical notes.

He was going to be left in the dust if this continued.

He stood up.

And walked in front of Azek.

Azek, who was taking a short break, immediately stood and gave a respectful bow.

"Your Highness."

Edrin and Mathew stood as well.

Daniel gestured for them to relax.

"I want to study with you. Would you mind?"

He asked in an amicable tone. But Azek knew they had no choice. He was only being polite—this was a command.

"By all means, Your Highness."

Damn it, what did I do to catch his attention? Azek was frustrated inwardly but didn't show it on his face.

Edrin and Mathew made sure not to reveal a single emotion, though Azek knew they were just as uncomfortable.

Daniel took a seat beside them.

From the next day onward, he started following Azek regularly.

The whole class followed suit, and soon the library became the hotspot for first-year students.

Although people were only copying at first, but after seeing the difference with their own eyes, a sense of urgency developed. It practically became a second home for some of them.

At night, Azek wrote a reply to the letter from his family and resumed studying.

His family had returned after ensuring he was fine and had joined his mother at the North Front.

The exam date was approaching, and the only thing he wanted was to become strong enough so he could lend a helping hand to them as well.

But right now, he couldn't.

Not in his current state.

He would only invite death upon himself.

The North had become a monster

encampment and the situation wasn't looking good.
