Ava's POV
The drive was longer than I expected. The thoughts of Amanda's cries and my failures didn't make it any better. Every second was filled with thoughts I couldn't even put together.
I kept checking my phone to see if Amanda would call. I knew it was impossible but I still hoped she'd call and tell me everything was alright and my mum was going to be fine.
Leon glanced at me a few times….just enough to remind me I wasn't alone. His hand rested on my thigh at some point, and I wish I could say that calmed me down but it didn't. My mind had created something else that I couldn't control.
"You're thinking too much," he said quietly.
"I don't even know what I'm thinking about," I replied.
Because it wasn't one thought. It was everything at once.
