Leon's POVI was already halfway through shutting things down when the call came in.
Laptop closed, desk cleared, jacket already on the back of my chair like I was minutes away from leaving. I had told myself I was going back to Ava tonight, no detours, no delays, just something normal for once even if "normal" didn't really exist in my world anymore.
Like the heavens saw me praying for a normal day and so desperately wanted to ruin it, my phone began to ring.
It was Alvin.
That name alone took me ten steps backwards.
I stared at the screen for a second before answering.
"Talk," I said, already expecting some sick, twisted news because Alvin would've never called me otherwise.
There was a short pause on the other end, then he sighed.
"You're not going to like this," Alvin said.
I leaned back slightly against my desk, not sitting, just grounding myself.
"I don't like anything that starts like that. Say it."
Another pause.
"Rico called me."
"When?"
