Ava's Pov
After he said that, neither of us spoke for a few seconds.
Not because there was nothing to say, but because whatever came next would just circle back to the same place we had already been. He stood there like he wasn't sure if staying longer would help or make things worse, and I didn't say anything to stop him from leaving.
"You should block the number," he said eventually.
"I will."
He nodded once like that was enough, then turned and left the room.
I didn't follow him this time. I heard the front door open, Amanda saying something I couldn't make out, then it closed again and the house settled back into its normal rhythm.
I stayed where I was for a bit, still holding my phone. The call log was open, the number still there like it was waiting for me to do something about it.
I blocked it.
It felt small, but it was something.
