Chapter 6 - The Mandate and the Mortal

"Greetings, seekers of the dao of immortality. This humble sovereign decrees that a heavenly mandate has been revealed. The administrative seat of the Saint of Grand Virtue currently holds no owner. Upon this sovereigns mandate as a representative, we deign to find a young soul of exceptional talent, with burning passion and soul, eternal ambition and ruthless relentlessness for our alliance.

May the luck of the eight star heavenly constellation deity be with you for this mission. A whisper to ones chosen by fate: exceptional individuals of the Lunar Yin path, and those walking the path of the Jade maiden will be granted particular favors."

Sovereign, along with Venerable Light, publish this recruitment in the Heavenly Talent Board.

For now, they will see if there will be anybody to decipher and interpret the "favors" correctly.

"The seat of the Saint must find a successor as fast as possible, Sovereign."

"I am well aware.

Worry not, in my vision, a suitable candidate will show themselves anon."

Light nods in contentment.

"Junior brother Sovereign, we have arrived at the Heavenly Talent Board HQ.

Let us publish the recruitment with the highest priority."

"This Sovereign will handle it.

I will add a hidden encrypted paragraph alongside it.

Those blessed and personally chosen by the Heaven's will are able to read this.

Thou shalt be warned: The seat of the Saint is not of power, but of stabilization.

If it is believed merit alone is sufficient, you underly a heavy misconception.

The realm of cultivation is secondary;

What matters is your inner resolve towards stabilization in dimensions.

Naturally, this Sovereign will guide you to reach the necessary power-level to administrate the Saint's seat."

Light seems unimpressed, as though he seems used to this brilliancy.

However, he still leaves a quick glance at the sentence regarding those of the Jade maiden path.

"I wonder, is there anyone capable and talented enough to fill this requirement?"

"Junior, if things are done, we must continue with our matters."

"Of course, Senior brother Light. We shall focus on the matters of succession after we finish the problem regarding the Dharma-ending phase dimensions."

The two of them hastily teleport into the high sky of a Dharma-ending phase dimension.

"Now then, Sovereign, let us see what exactly caused the uproar in this dimension.

According to my calculations, this dimension measures a 200% increase in doubtful thoughts, formed as clouded Qi, regarding ethical principles and the Heavenly Mandate itself.

Today, we must get to the bottom of it.

Otherwise, given the rapid speed of development, a revolution against the Heavenly Court will be due in 38,3 years."

The Sovereign, hands behind his back, now enters a thinking stance.

"Normally, this would not be bothersome.

Although, it must be mentioned that even a revolution of a Dharma-ending phase and its suppression by us high ranking cultivators may negatively influence our karmic merit.

Therefore, we should solve the problem from its roots before it can manifest itself into something far worse."

A second of silence passes.

"Sovereign, did you notice that as well?"

"Positive. Let us depart to the origin of it immediately."

The two of them leap 3000 Li in an instant to identify the roots of the new anomaly.

"Oho. This is truly impressive.

A cultivator of mere Core Formation rank radiates such huge amounts of clouded Qi?"

"Sovereign, look closely.

On top of that, it seems he possesses grey fog in his lower dantian as well.

This is something unprecedented.

We ought to interrogate this anomaly of a cultivator."

Sovereign and Venerable Light lift their concealment of invisibility.

"Before you stand two enlightened beings who have reached the pinnacle of the mortal realm.

It is without an introduction for you to grasp what sovereignity we possess.

We shall cut to the chase:

This Cultivator of the Mid Core Formation realm radiates abnormal amounts of clouded Qi.

As beings who uphold morality and the safety of the cosmic world, we have descended to bestow upon you mortals a chance to prove your innocence."

Venerable Light adds, hands behind his back:

"Cultivator of the Core Formation realm, reveal your identity, who do you work for!"

Despite under enormous pressure of their Qi, the unknown Cultivator speaks carefully:

"This lowly mortal and merchant pays her respects to the immortal cultivators.

In this Dharma-ending phase dimension, this mortal is known as Leather Roblo.

While this mortal has no talent for cultivation, since this mortal lacks spiritual roots,

this mortal still believes that in order to attain the Dao, justiceness and morality need to be uphold.

However, in recent years, I have been convinced of the opposite multiple times."

Venerable Light slightly raises his voice.

"Mischievousness! How dare you imply that the world, along with the cultivators, lack morality and justice?!"

The mortal Leather Roblo slowly continues after a period of heavy silence:

"Immortal Cultivators, believe this lowly mortal in these words.

Though we are ignorant in this lowly dimension, the teachings of Venerable Light and the Primordial Sovereign are still praised, by nobles and commoners!

We preach exactly what Primordial Sovereign once taught:

True beauty of a person lies not in their outer appearance such as mundane worldly matters. It is about ones true inner abilities and their intellectual, literary and linguistic knowledge about the wisdoms of the world.

However, this lowly Leather Roblo dares to oppose these teachings!

In my view, this is the representation of injustice!

Does this not imply that the illiterate are ugly by nature?"

The Sovereign ponders for a moment.

"You may elaborate on your viewpoint.

This Sovereign will share his verdict once all words are spoken."

Leather Roblo continues.

"According to your teachings, how can an illiterate beggar reach true beauty, if they do not even pass the basic requirements to learn literature and linguistics?

For them, born low into these hierarchies that predetermine fate itself, it is impossible to gain any personal value!"

Venerable Light adds during the pause.

"Mortal Leather Roblo, what exactly backs your bold assumption?

Does anybody else share your ideology towards this injustice?"

"Indeed, this mortal does. An old friend of mine, who was on the verge of ascension, failed the breakthrough due to this injustice."

"I will swiftly summon that said friend.", the Venerable declares.

With a snap of fingers, said person was summoned.

While Leather Roblo was stunned by this, she reserved her calmness.

"Interesting, it seems this lowly beggar was given another chance.

My friend Leather Roblo, thank you for giving me this opportunity.

I will repay you thousandfold for this moment.

Immortal Cultivators, allow me to share a story.

The Founding Ancestor of the Beggar sect:

Legend says she was close to breaking through the Quasi Loose Immortal realm to ascend to the upper realm.

But due to the inner demons that haunted her from his past, she suffered a backlash.

Her Dao foundation was damaged and inevitably, she was forced to stay hidden in the mortal realm as a beggar.

They say when the beggar sect is ever in the state extinction,

The First Ancestor will come back and remind the world why she was called the 'Heavenly Ancestor Beggar'.

Immortal Cultivators, do you know what kind of inner demons haunted her past?

And, Immortal Cultivators, are you able to find out who that person is?"

Light and Sovereign remain silent, awaiting the following words.

"This lowly beggar was once the strongest under the Heavens in this Dharma-Ending dimension.

With my born name being Riri-Puff, and my title being Divine Azure Pavilion Empress,

Nothing stood before my path of ascension!

However, one thing shook me of my complexion.

During my tribulations for the Quasi Loose Immortal realm, I encountered inner demons.

They haunted me down because of my past of being a beggar.

What's worse, is that only due to my insufficient literary expertise during that time, I was forced to endure the humiliating tribulation that caused me to lose most of my Dao foundation!

Being that weak, I had no other option than to use my worldly expertise to build a beggar's sect.

After doing some extensive research using the beggar sect's intelligence, we found traces that agents of the Heavenly Court influenced the inner demons to be exceptionally strong and thus hinder my success in the tribulation!

This lowly beggar demands to know from the Immortal Cultivators - is this according to the truth?!

If it is, what could have possibly caused the Heavenly Court to lose its dignity of justice?!"

Hours pass.

Absolute silence.

For the first time in history, the Sovereign did not immediately issue a verdict.

Seeing this, not even Venerable Light dared to interrupt this current flow.

In the middle of the night, where the full moon shines bright, the Sovereign begins by asking a question.

"If virtue cannot be taught, and merit not inherited, then, what exactly does Heaven reward?"
