Chapter 2 - A Name Worth Fear (updated)

Millions of years later, the narrative shifts to the Abyssal Star Sector, a region known for the presence of the great abyss and the planets it has conquered.

Across the universe, there are many places. Some are full of butterflies, beautiful plants, and trees, while others, like the great abyss, are dangerous and mysterious.

The great abyss was divided into 99 floors, from which they are divided into mortal ranks, immortal ranks floor and Divine ranks. The mortal rank floors are divided into 50 floors, the immortal rank floors are divided into 40 floors, and the remaining 9 are divided into divine-rank.

Near the great abyss, there is a World called Athallint, which is still resisting the great abyss's invasion. After the five angelic beings critically injured the World core, the World's rank fell from a divine-level planet to a mortal-level World.

But this is also a boon for the people of this World, because due to the fall of the World's rank to mortal, only mortal-rank abyssal demons and abominations can invade the planet. Because of that, people of this planet still have a chance of resisting the invasion and fighting back.

In the northern regions of this World, there is an empire called the Great Star Empire, one of the five great empires that are still resisting the invasion of the abyss.

In the outer region of the empire, near a destroyed village called Inkdon, a young man was fleeing the village. He was around the age of about 16 years old, with dark black hair, milky white skin, and around the height of 173 cm. His name is Aether Duskbane.

Let's go an hour back in time to see what happened. Aether was eating happily with his mother and father while happily talking to each other.

"So, Aether, you are about to be 16 years old in two days, which means you can attend the awakening ceremony in two days in the nearest Eastwood City. Are you excited?" his father, Robert, said.

Robert has dark black hair with the physique of a warrior, with slightly brown skin due to working in the field and hunting for food in the forest, with a height of 176.3 to 177.1 cm.

"Yes, father, I am very excited and a little bit nervous about which element I will awaken, or even if I will be able to awaken an element." Aether's voice keeps getting lower till the end of the sentence, so that it becomes a whisper.

Seeing his son's nervousness, Robert said, "You don't have to worry, my son. Even if you don't awaken an element to cultivate, there are many jobs in the village," as he turned his head toward the kitchen. "Right, honey?" Robert said.

"Yes," a voice came out from the kitchen, saying, "You are right, honey." With this voice, a figure appeared in front of the kitchen door. She was Aether's mother, Emma. Unlike her son and husband, she had brown hair with milky white skin and a beautiful face.

Then she turned towards her son and said, "As your father said, you don't have to worry too much about this, and now eat, the food is getting cold.

"As she said this, she sat right next to her son's chair and started eating her food, while the family happily conversed.

Suddenly, a high-pitched voice came from outside their home: "A demon has invaded! RUN!"

Hearing this, his father reacted quickly, picked up his hunting sword, and said to them, "Stay here, I will go and take a look." As he said that, he exited the house.

Coming outside, Robert saw the people of the village running to save their lives, and behind them there was a grotesque abomination with 7 hands, from which 6 hands were coming out of its right and left shoulders and one from its back. It had two faces with sharp teeth coming out from them, four horns, and 6 eyes on both of its heads.

An abomination is a species of undead created by demons by combining parts of different races, but with a low IQ. This one looked like it was combined with multiple humans, but it was a low-rank abomination.

Seeing this, Robert said, "A Mana Refinement Realm stage abomination," a stage above his stage. Seeing this, he steadied his heart and took a fighting stance.

While thinking about why there was not a single village guard, he looked toward the village entry and saw that guards were surrounding a fat noble who had been given the task to govern this village, and the noble was giving orders to the guards to leave the village to die and protect him and escort him out of the village.

Seeing this, Robert cursed this damn noble, always thinking of himself, while getting ready to fight.

Seeing that a mere human was not running after seeing him, the abomination got angry and started running toward him.

Reaching before him, the abomination swung one of its hands toward him while trying to capture him with its other hand. Seeing this, Robert had fear in his eyes. He started to parry his attack with his sword while trying to counterattack him, and seeing this, the abomination got more enraged and started attacking in more frenzy.

Robert started to fall back while keeping parrying with his sword, and while the abomination was attacking him, he saw an opening to swing his sword toward its head. But the abomination sensed the danger, stepped back, and put one of its hands in front of its head. Because of that, Robert's sword landed on its hand, cutting off one of its hands, and because of that, the abomination got a chance and hit him on his chest, which made him fly and crash through his house.

Seeing his father crash through the wall, Aether ran toward him. Robert saw his son run towards him and shouted, "Don't come over!" but it was too late. The abomination was right behind and was swaying toward him. Seeing this, Robert tried to run toward him, but he was too injured by the abomination's attack.

At the critical moment, Emma stepped between her Child and the attack, raising her shield to protect him. She took the full force of the blow, which shattered her shield and sent her hurtling across the ground until he crashed into a tree.

As the giant menace prepared to strike again, a sudden loud noise erupted from outside, diverting the creature's attention. was drawn outside, and the abomination took off after that noise.

When Aether saw that the abomination took off toward the noise, he turned toward his father and mother and saw that they were on the brink of death. He ran toward them and knelt near his parents.

His mother, who was on the brink of death, looked toward him and said, "Listen, my child…" With her fading breath, his mother whispered, "Look around you… It's only we commoners who die like this while used by those nobles who like to order us around like we are their slaves. In his eyes, we common folk are nothing but their fortress and shield against these abyssal abominations, while they are enjoying there life's in their big mansions with no worries. And we are struggling to survive everyday life. So promise me… My child, that you will become so powerful that those nobles and these demons will quake in there boot just by hearing your name."

"I promise you, mother," Aether said, while sobbing, then he turned toward his father.

His father looked at him and nodded kindly and said, "Leave us, Aether, and run before the abyssal abomination returns."

"But father—" Robert interrupted him mid-speech and said, "Our bodies cannot take us far, and we are on the brink of death, so leave us and go."

Seeing his mother's and father's faces with no hesitation, Aether turned and ran out of his now destroyed house.
