Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: The Mysterious Identity

It's true what Flint said. If she trusted anyone too easily, she would be the one who would get into trouble more easily. Her friendship with Lauren used to be fine. She thought she was a reliable friend. However, now, it was Lauren who stabbed her in the back. Lauren had secretly stolen Harley from her and now accused her in such a brutal manner that she was blacklisted by all agencies and companies.

Remembering the moments of her friendship with Lauren, which had always been fine, brought tears to her eyes. Should she be careful about who she hangs out with from now on? However, she was sure that Flint wasn't a bad guy like Harley. If he were, why would he still want to hang out with her?

"Ellen, I knew you were too soft on everyone." A heavy sigh escaped his lips. "You should have been more careful about the friends you made. As a result, now you have no one to defend you."

"By the way, can I tell you something tonight? It's going to be a long story. Actually, the reason I want to be friends with Lauren is because she used to be nice to me."

"Okay, I'll hold back my curiosity for now." He got up from the sofa for a moment, walking over to his still-sealed package. "By the way, I want to show you something."

Ellen laughed awkwardly, propping her head on the back of the sofa as she watched her handsome friend unsealing the box. "I'm curious about you too. Why do you trust me so much that you want to show me the package?"

"Because I have a unique habit before bed. Whether we share a hobby or not, I just want to show off."

Ellen was still curious about what package Flint had bought, making the box so heavy when he lifted it. Was it gaming equipment? It couldn't be gaming equipment, considering they always played online games before bed. So, what hobby was Flint referring to?

When Flint opened the package and took out a telescope, Ellen's eyes widened and her mouth dropped open until her jaw stiffened. Coincidentally or not, they shared a similar habit. She hadn't expected Flint to be as fond of stars as she was. However, the question was, how could Flint afford such an expensive telescope? Could it be that Flint was the son of a wealthy family who was running away? Moreover, the casual clothes Flint was wearing were like those she had seen at a fashion show.

"Flint, is that a real telescope?"

Flint laughed heartily as he assembled the telescope. "Does this look like a toy telescope to you?"

"But, it must be very expensive. Can you really afford it with your savings?"

"I've actually been planning to buy one for a long time. That's why I've been saving up for years just to buy a telescope." His eyes were fixed on his friend, who continued to blush. "Do you really like looking at the stars at night?"

"I really like it. But I haven't been able to buy it."

"Is it because it's so expensive?"

"No. But because I don't have time to look at the stars before bed."

"But, you have free time to play that game with your fans."

"I-"

drrrt…drrrt…

Hearing her phone vibrate in her pocket, she briefly picked up Penelope's call. It was brief, but she ended the call and hurriedly got up from the sofa.

"By the way, I have to go back now. My friend is looking for me."

"Okay. Thank you for bringing me this valuable package."

She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "By the way, I owe you a favor. I need to tell you about my past relationship with my best friend. That's why I wanted to invite you to dinner at my place tonight."

A sweet smile spread across his handsome face. "Of course I can spare some time. It's truly an honor to be invited to dinner by an actress at her residence."

"Now my status is not an actress."

Flint slapped his forehead. "That's right. You've been blacklisted. I'm sorry."

"It's okay. Thank you for still considering me as an actress until now."

Ellen was so happy to finally meet her best friend in real life. She pranced into her home and was immediately greeted by a very worried Penelope. She was immediately hugged tightly, making it difficult for her to breathe.

"Penelope, I can't breathe!"

"I'm worried you're being attacked by haters! Especially as your scandal escalates."

"It's okay. I just came from the unit next door."

Penelope momentarily broke the hug, narrowing her eyes at her friend. "What are you doing there? Are you giving him or her a snack as a gift for moving here?"

Her smile widened as she imagined her first meeting with her best friend in real life. Although awkward, they were reunited in the end.

"No. It's a pretty strange story. My neighbor's package got lost here, and I returned it to him."

"Then what happened? Did he just start insulting you?"

"My neighbor is Flint."

Penelope was so shocked she screamed. "Really? Is he really the Flint you used to play with every night?"

"At first, I thought this was a dream. Turns out it's real. I never thought I'd meet him like this." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "He's very cool and handsome in real life, despite his simple appearance."

"But is he really a good person? He's not like your fans who keep criticizing you?"

"He still wants to trust me even though I'm in a critical situation like this." She gently nudged Penelope's arm repeatedly. "I knew he was a good person."

"Thank goodness you and him finally met again. I hope you two are really dating."

Ellen immediately grinned at her best friend. "There's no way I could date him."

"Why? Isn't he the best man in your eyes?"

"But, I still don't know his identity. Is he from a wealthy family or an ordinary one? Because when I saw the interior of his residence, the furniture was quite luxurious compared to what I have now."

Penelope rested her chin on her hand. "If he really came from a wealthy family, why would he move to this ordinary apartment?"

"I won't think badly of him. I definitely want to invite him to dinner here tonight."

Penelope smiled again, gently nudging her friend's arm. "I knew you were starting to fall for him, Ellen. If you didn't, you wouldn't have invited him to dinner with you."
