As the shop manager, my sister has no fixed holidays or workdays. She can take time off whenever she wants by having someone cover for her, making her schedule highly flexible.
But she hardly ever wants to rest. It's always her designated substitute who urges her to take a break, and even then, she only reluctantly takes a single day off. Her substitute often complains: despite receiving such a hefty salary, the actual work is all done by the boss herself, leaving him with little to do.
The reason is that my sister dreams of one day working at our family's "Hegemon's Everything Shop" headquarters, overseeing all 125 family branches. Her goal is to elevate our family's rank from fourth to a higher position among Taiwan's seven major families.
She once asked me, "If I really do go to work at headquarters, Guo Wei, would you want to take over as shop manager?"
The answer, unsurprisingly, was no.
