Chapter 28 - CELESTIA: THE PRESENCE OF NEVERLAND - Chapter 28 : What the Night Lets Through

Chapter 29 — What the Night Lets Through

The night had laid its hand over New York like a fragile promise.

The lights never truly went out here. They pulsed. They vibrated, as if the city stubbornly refused to fall into silence, as if it knew—somewhere, deep down—that calm was a luxury it could no longer afford.

Yojuro walked.

Alone.

His footsteps made almost no sound against the damp concrete. He moved without a clear destination, slipping between passersby like a shadow that didn't belong to their world. Conversations, laughter, engines, distant sirens… all of it formed a continuous soundscape.

But none of it truly reached him.

His mind was elsewhere.

Again.

Always.

Error.

That name wasn't just a memory. It was a fracture. A presence etched into his mind with almost physical violence.

And behind it…

There was something else.

Older.

Quieter.

Something watching through him, like a gaze cast from a bottomless abyss.

Yojuro slowed.

For a moment.

Then—

A sound.

Low.

Brutally human.

His stomach.

He stopped.

The contrast was almost absurd.

A being capable of facing monsters that could shatter reality… halted by a simple, primal need.

A second growl.

Longer.

More insistent.

His eyes slowly lifted.

A sign.

Simple.

Almost ordinary.

RAMEN HOUSE

The warm light spilling from inside felt like it belonged to another world.

A world without war.

Without Error.

Without destiny.

— "Alright."

And he stepped in.

---

The warmth embraced him instantly.

Not overwhelming. Gentle. Alive.

The wood on the walls, worn by time. The blended voices of customers. The clatter of chopsticks. The rich smell of broth simmering for hours.

An ordinary place.

Almost foreign.

Yojuro sat down without a word.

A glance from the server.

— "What can I get you?"

— "A ramen."

Short.

Precise.

Enough.

Time stretched.

Not like in a fight.

Not like tension.

But like something… normal.

And yet, even here, even in this moment stolen from the violence of the world…

Yojuro stayed alert.

Always.

Then—

— "H-here…"

A fragile voice.

A young girl approached.

Her hands trembled slightly around the steaming bowl. Her steps were unsteady. Every movement betrayed an inner tension she could no longer control.

Yojuro looked at her.

One second.

Two.

He understood.

Even before it happened.

The imbalance.

The fear.

The mistake.

The world slowed.

The bowl slipped.

And—

SPLASH

The hot liquid stained his clothes.

The sound rang through the restaurant.

Then—

Silence.

Total.

Conversations stopped.

All eyes turned.

The girl froze.

Her eyes widened.

Her breath caught.

— "I-I'M SORRY!!"

Panic exploded in her voice. She stepped back, then again, her trembling hands searching for something—a cloth, a solution, an escape.

Yojuro looked down at his clothes.

Soaked.

Still warm.

A drop slowly slid along the fabric.

He inhaled.

Then sighed.

Slowly.

— "Watch where you're going."

His voice wasn't loud.

But it was sharp.

— "You got it all over me."

The girl immediately lowered her head.

— "S-sorry… I… I'm really sorry…"

Her words broke apart.

She was shaking.

Not because of him.

Because of something deeper.

Then—

— "Hey."

A presence.

A young man stepped forward, placing himself between them.

His gaze was firm.

Protective.

— "She's my sister."

Silence.

— "She didn't do it on purpose."

Yojuro raised his eyes.

Looked at him.

— "My name is Kira."

A slight gesture toward the girl.

— "And her… Haruka."

Haruka didn't dare lift her head.

Her shoulders trembled slightly.

Then Kira continued.

His voice had changed.

Less aggressive.

Heavier.

— "Our father…"

A pause.

— "He disappeared."

The word lingered in the air.

Yojuro didn't move.

— "For several days now."

— "He's not answering anymore."

Haruka whispered.

Barely audible.

— "And… I… I can't focus anymore…"

Her hands tightened.

— "I keep making mistakes…"

A moment.

Time seemed to slow.

Not like in a fight.

But like a crack forming.

Yojuro looked at her.

Truly.

And something in his gaze shifted.

Slight.

Almost invisible.

But real.

— "I see."

Silence.

Then—

He stood up.

Calmly.

— "You see…"

Haruka slightly lifted her head.

— "I'm going to bring your father back."

The world seemed to stop again.

— "…what?"

— "Why?" Kira asked, wary.

Yojuro didn't look away.

— "Because…"

A beat.

— "I'm a Celestial."

Not a declaration.

A fact.

Then he left.

As if that was enough.

---

The night welcomed him again.

But it wasn't quite the same anymore.

Somewhere…

A promise had been made.

And in this world…

Promises had a cost.

---

A few hours later.

Academy.

The silence of the dormitory felt almost unreal after the chaos of the city.

Yojuro entered.

— "Zayn?"

Nothing.

No answer.

But—

Something.

A presence.

Above.

Slow.

Still.

Alive.

He lifted his head.

And saw it.

Clinging to the ceiling.

A massive creature.

A reptilian body, black, crossed by glowing green lines pulsing like a foreign heartbeat. Its tail slowly swayed, carving shapes in the air. Its claws were embedded in the surface as if gravity were merely a suggestion.

Its eyes glowed.

Fixed.

Then—

— "Boo."

Silence.

Yojuro stared at it.

No reaction.

No surprise.

No fear.

The creature slowly descended, every movement controlled, almost… amused.

Then a voice.

— "You like this primal, Yojuro?"

A smile in the tone.

— "Not bad, right?"

Yojuro crossed his arms.

Cold gaze.

— "It's mostly very ugly."

A pause.

Then—

💥

Green light exploded.

The creature's body folded, contracted, recomposed—

And Zayn appeared.

Normal.

A slight smirk.

— "You're really not cool…"

He looked at Yojuro.

Then let out a small laugh.

— "And your clothes are really dirty…"

An amused glance.

— "What did you do? Fall in the mud?"

Yojuro walked past him.

— "Very funny."

And he left.

Without looking back.

---

Zayn remained alone.

Silence fell again.

But this time…

It wasn't empty.

Something was coming.

Something was moving forward.

And without realizing it yet…

They had all just stepped into a story that wouldn't give them a choice.
