Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Patient Zero

"Think of it like World War II," Nick Fury explained, pacing the Situation Room. "In our timeline, the Allies won. But in another timeline, maybe Hydra won. One small change—a bullet missing its target, a bomb failing to detonate—creates a branching path."

The team nodded. It was basic "Butterfly Effect" theory.

"So," Hill asked, "what's the 'branch' that leads to something worse than the Snap?"

Stark Mansion.

Tony Stark was having a similar, albeit more alcohol-fueled, crisis.

"Timelines," he muttered, swirling his scotch. "Parallel Dimensions. Branching Realities. Lucas is throwing theoretical physics at me like confetti."

"If I published this," Tony laughed bitterly, "I'd win the Nobel Prize. And then they'd lock me in a padded cell."

Then, the diary updated.

June 15 (Update 2)

Speaking of worst-case scenarios... the "Marvel Zombies" timeline takes the cake.

In the comics, everyone resets the universe like it's a computer glitch. But the movies? If we get the Zombie Virus, we are done.

Imagine a world where Captain America is a flesh-eating monster. Where Iron Man gets his head bitten off first thing. Even Thanos—the Purple Potato with the Infinity Gauntlet—gets infected.

Just rows of undead superheroes, still with their powers, but hungry.

And the worst part? It starts small. Quantum Realm microbes? Alien parasite? One mistake, and the whole timeline rots.

Tony stared at the holographic text.

"Iron Man gets his head bitten off first thing."

He instinctively touched his neck.

"Well," Tony said, his voice tight. "That's vivid."

"And Thanos gets infected," he continued. "So the Big Bad of the universe... the guy who snaps away half of life... becomes a zombie? That implies the virus is stronger than him."

"It implies the virus is stronger than everything," Jarvis corrected. "If even a Titan with Cosmic Stones succumbs, the pathogen must be extremely virulent. Possibly mystical or quantum in nature."

"Quantum Realm," Tony noted the phrase. "Lucas mentioned 'Quantum Realm microbes.' That means Pym."

Hank Pym. The Ant-Man guy. Tony knew of him—mostly because Howard had complained about him for decades.

"Pym is messing with sub-atomic particles," Tony realized. "If he brings something back... something small... we're all dead."

"We need to watch Pym," Tony decided. "If he opens a door to the Microverse, I want to be there to slam it shut."

SHIELD Headquarters.

"Zombies," Coulson sighed. "Why did it have to be zombies?"

"Not just zombies," Natasha corrected. "Super Zombies. Imagine the Hulk, but undead. Imagine Thor calling down lightning while trying to eat your brain."

"We'd be extinct in twenty-four hours," Barton estimated.

"And Tony Stark dies first," Fury noted. "Which means our tech advantage is gone immediately."

"The cause," Fury focused. "Lucas says 'Quantum Realm microbes.' That points to Hank Pym."

"Pym has been off the grid for years," Hill said. "We don't know where his lab is."

"Find him," Fury ordered. "If Pym is playing with the Quantum Realm, he risks unleashing a plague that makes the Black Death look like a mild cold."

"Also," Fury added, "we need to secure containment protocols. If an outbreak happens... we need a way to nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

"Are we talking about nuking American soil, Sir?" Hill asked, alarmed.

"If the alternative is a planet of undead gods?" Fury said grimly. "Yes. We nuke it. And we don't look back."

"This 'Multiverse'..." Natasha mused. "It's not just a fun concept anymore. It's a minefield. Every timeline is a loaded gun pointed at our heads."

"And Lucas," Fury said, looking at the diary, "is the only one with the map."

"We need to keep him writing," Fury concluded. "He's annoying. He's disrespectful. He calls me names. But as long as he's writing... we have a chance."
