Chapter 31 - Is This the World of a Top Student?

Zhao Ruilong was cursing furiously inside the entertainment city, but Fang Ming couldn't hear him at all.

About twenty minutes later, at the Emergency Department of Rong City Third People's Hospital.

The hospital remained brightly lit late at night, filled with the smell of disinfectant and the anxieties of people from all walks of life.

When Fang Ming rushed into the emergency hall carrying Gu Qinghe, he drew many side-glances.

"Doctor! Fever, a high fever!"

Fang Ming placed her directly onto a stretcher at the triage desk.

The nurse on duty was a woman in her thirties. She efficiently took an ear thermometer and checked her temperature.

Beep! 39.5 degrees Celsius!

The nurse was startled and glanced at Fang Ming. "Why did you wait until she was burning up like this to bring her in? Any later and her brain would have been fried. Are you her husband or boyfriend? You're really careless!"

This temperature was high even for a child; for an adult, it was terrifying!

Fang Ming didn't explain. "I'm her friend. Please, treat her quickly."

The following process was a flurry of chaotic activity.

Registration, blood tests, skin tests, prescriptions, and IV drips.

Fortunately, Fang Ming wasn't short on money now. The power of money works everywhere; he directly paid for a private room and completed the admission procedures.

Half an hour later, the ward finally became quiet.

Gu Qinghe lay on the large hospital bed with an indwelling needle in the back of her hand. Transparent liquid medication entered her body drop by drop through the tube.

As the fever reducers and anti-inflammatories began to take effect, her furrowed brows relaxed slightly, and her breathing was no longer so labored.

Fang Ming sat on a chair by the bed, looking at this woman who was about his age, and sighed helplessly.

"She's also a person with a hard life."

Seeing her cracked lips, Fang Ming got some water and used a medical cotton swab to moisten them.

After finishing all this, his consciousness sank into his mind and he opened the Myriad Heavens Mutual Aid Group.

At this moment, the group was far from peaceful.

[Peking University]: "@Nameless Guide Brother Ming, how is everything?"

[Soldier King Lone Wolf]: "Don't worry. Since the group owner has taken action, there will definitely be no problem. That manager guy—if he dares touch a single hair on your sister's head, I'll twist his skull off and use it as a bowl when I return to the country!"

[Marvelous Doctor of Chinese Medicine]: "Twisting off a skull is too cruel. Better to leave him to me. I just formulated an itching powder; just a little bit will make a person scratch their skin raw..."

Fang Ming was somewhat speechless looking at the comments from this group of violent elements.

[Nameless Guide]: "@Peking University Rest easy, your sister is fine."

Fang Ming took a quick photo of the ward, intentionally avoiding Gu Qinghe's face, only capturing the IV bottle and one hand, and sent it to the group.

[Nameless Guide]: "That Zhu Dahai did indeed have designs on your sister, but I stopped him. However, your sister has a severe high fever and some hypoglycemia because she hasn't eaten much. She's on an IV drip in the hospital now. The doctor says she'll be fine once the fever breaks."

Seeing this message from Fang Ming, Gu Bai, in that dilapidated rental room thousands of miles away, was already moved to tears.

Since their parents died, his sister had been his only relative in this world.

If it weren't for Fang Ming, what would have happened to his sister tonight? She would have been forced to drink until drunk, then taken away while suffering from a high fever, and then... Gu Bai didn't dare think further.

He took a deep breath. Even though Fang Ming couldn't see him, he solemnly knelt on the bed and kowtowed to the phone.

[Peking University]: "Brother Ming... I can't thank you enough. How much are the medical expenses? I don't have it now, but I will definitely pay you back in the future!"

[Nameless Guide]: "We'll talk about money later. You're still a student; studying well is more important than anything."

[Peking University]: "No, I must pay you back. I will remember this debt!"

Looking at the stubborn reply, Fang Ming didn't strike at his self-esteem again.

Just then, the system's notification sound rang in Fang Ming's mind.

[Ding!]

[Group member 'Peking University' commissioned task completed!]

[Task Name: Pride of the Humble House]

[Reward: Randomly extract one skill from 'Peking University'.]

[Extraction successful... Congratulations to the host for obtaining: Super Memory!]

Buzz!

As the notification faded, Fang Ming felt a cool, tingling sensation deep within his brain.

It was as if his originally turbid and crowded mind was suddenly cleared of fog by a breeze; the world before his eyes seemed to become clearer.

He subconsciously looked at the receipt on the bedside table.

With just a glance, he closed his eyes the next second.

Every word and every number on the receipt, even the nurse's scribbled signature and a small black ink smudge from the printer, emerged clearly in his mind, as if a high-definition photo had been stored on a hard drive.

"Is this the world of a Top Student?"

Fang Ming opened his eyes, a flicker of pleasant surprise flashing through them.

Gu Bai was a 'Top Student' type protagonist; having a photographic memory was a basic skill.

With this ability, whether it was dealing with complex business data in the future or remembering the intricate interpersonal networks and intelligence around Qin Xiao, it would be like adding wings to a tiger.

However, since he was saving someone, he might as well see it through to the end; anyway, he had nothing to do back home.

Fang Ming took the briefcase and contract from Wang Meng's hands, sent him back, and sat alone on the escort bed next to Gu Qinghe.

He didn't sleep, but sat there playing with his phone and scrolling through short videos... Meanwhile, in the luxury penthouse suite of Jinding Entertainment City.

"Smash!"

A limited-edition crystal ashtray was slammed hard onto the imported wool carpet. It didn't break, but it rolled far away, spilling ash everywhere.

"Damn it, damn it! That piece of trash, a mere watchdog dares to show me attitude?!"

Zhao Ruilong was shirtless, that wet gold chain still hanging around his neck, with water droplets dripping from the ends of his hair.

He had just taken a shower, trying to use cold water to douse his wicked anger, but it clearly hadn't worked.

The spot on his chest where he had been hit was still aching, and his butt was burning; it was likely already bruised.

What made him even more frantic was the humiliation of making a fool of himself in public—in his own territory, being knocked flying by someone he looked down on, and being watched by so many guests?

If this fucking got out, where would he, the Second Young Master Zhao, put his face?

"Young Master Zhao, calm down. It's not worth ruining your health over that kind of person."

On the sofa, that previous internet celebrity girl had changed into an even more sheer lace nightgown. She carefully pushed over a glass of iced whiskey, her voice so cloying it could practically drip water.

"Get lost!"

Zhao Ruilong shoved her aside and paced barefoot on the thick carpet like a trapped beast.

The internet celebrity girl was too scared to make a sound and shrank into the corner of the sofa. The other lackeys in the room also looked at each other, not daring to breathe loudly.

They had followed Zhao Ruilong for so long that they knew this master's temper all too well—he didn't have much ability, but he valued his face more than the heavens.

Today's matter wouldn't be settled easily.

"Phone! Where's my damn phone?!"
