Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: The Death of Euphemia

June 1st, 11:30 PM.

Shiga Taka sat in front of the television, watching the twenty-second episode of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.

The previous episode, the twentieth, had focused primarily on Suzaku and Euphemia, deepening their relationship. Of course, the male lead, Lelouch, also made an appearance, leading the Black Knights to assist Suzaku and further solidify the organization's support among the public.

The twenty-first episode centered on daily life at the school.

The academy where Lelouch attended was hosting a festival, attracting many outsiders, including Euphemia.

At the school, Euphemia met Nunnally, Lelouch's younger sister. Lelouch soon joined them, and the three sat on the steps, chatting while watching Suzaku pilot a giant mecha to create a colossal pizza. But a sudden gust of wind blew Euphemia's hat away.

The Vice Governor's appearance at the school caused a stir among students and reporters.

Suzaku, still in his mecha, intervened and successfully rescued Euphemia, extricating her from the awkward situation.

Seizing the opportunity, Euphemia announced the establishment of the Special Administrative Zone of Japan, open to all residents of Area 11.

Though well-intentioned, this move posed a fatal crisis for Lelouch and his Black Knights, potentially leading to their complete collapse.

The question was how Lelouch would handle this challenge this time.

Having followed the series from the first episode, Shiga Taka had thoroughly enjoyed it, despite some emotionally taxing moments.

This perilous situation only heightened his anticipation, wondering how Lelouch would use his King's Power and brilliant intellect to overcome it.

The television broadcast first showed the reactions of various factions to the establishment of the Special Administrative Zone of Japan.

A massive number of citizens flocked to join, many applauding the move. Even many members of Lelouch's Black Knights considered joining the Special Administrative Zone.

Lelouch naturally refused to join. During the zone's inauguration ceremony, he stationed personnel around the venue and had C.C. pilot a flying mecha to enter the hall with him.

Euphemia was delighted to see Lelouch and welcomed him warmly.

Lelouch stated he wished to speak with her privately.

Euphemia, knowing that Zero was Lelouch, felt completely at ease and, without any reservations, immediately agreed to his request.

Inside the room, Lelouch and Euphemia were alone.

After removing his helmet, Lelouch pulled out a fully ceramic pistol and aimed it at Euphemia.

Euphemia was certain Lelouch wouldn't shoot, and indeed, he had no intention of killing her. Instead, he wanted Euphemia to shoot him, thereby destroying her reputation and resolving the crisis while sparking rebellions across the land.

The plan seemed flawless, but Euphemia quickly persuaded him.

Having already renounced her claim to the throne, Euphemia told Lelouch, "This is for Nunnally. That child said she doesn't need anything else as long as she can be with her brother."

"Just for something like that?" The Male Lead was somewhat surprised.

"Precisely because of something like that, I made up my mind. What truly matters to me? So, Lelouch, I won't lose any of the things that are truly important to me. Rest assured, I won't tell anyone about your affairs..."

"Hmph! Hahaha, what about Cornelia?"

"It's not like we can't see her again."

"You're such a fool, a big dummy."

Despite his words, Lelouch sensed Euphemia's resolve. He abandoned his original plan and decided to cooperate with her instead.

He shook her hand and said, "You've won. Let's work together to figure out how this Administrative Special Zone will survive. Oh, and I'm not becoming your subordinate."

"Alright."

Euphemia's face lit up with joy, but she quickly complained, "I really have no credibility, do I? Even if you threatened me, do you think I would have shot you, Lelouch?"

"No."

Lelouch explained, "If I truly gave an order, no one could resist. Shooting me, dismissing Suzaku, any order at all."

"Really, you're always making weird jokes." Euphemia naturally didn't believe him.

"It's true."

Lelouch gave an example. "For instance, if I said, 'Kill all the Japanese,' that command would have nothing to do with your own consciousness..."

What began as a casual example suddenly took a shocking turn: Lelouch's King's Power spiraled out of control, actually issuing the command "Kill all Japanese" to Euphemia.

Euphemia resisted, pleading, "No," but was quickly overwhelmed by the King's Power. She then declared, "Yes, we must kill all Japanese," picked up a pistol from the floor, and charged toward the venue outside.

Lelouch was stunned. He frantically tried to make Euphemia forget the command, but it was useless. She was already running too fast to be stopped.

Outside, Euphemia, now completely controlled by the King's Power, addressed the crowd: "To all who call themselves Japanese, I have a request: Will you die? Well, I'd prefer you commit suicide... Is that too much? Then, soldiers, kill them all—a massacre."

The crowd was shocked.

Before anyone could react, Euphemia raised her pistol and shot a Japanese man in the venue.

What followed was, inevitably, chaos.

In front of the television, Shiga Takaoya was stunned.

What kind of insane plot twist is this?

How could it be so tragic?

And after she fired that shot, Euphemia's reputation is utterly ruined. Worse, under the influence of the King's Power, she'll be completely transformed into a Japanese-slaughtering machine.

There's no hope left. She's doomed.

In fact, the subsequent events unfolded exactly as he feared.

After a period of wavering, the Male Lead, Lelouch, reunited with C.C. and made a painful decision: "Since it's come to this, I can only make the most of Euphemia. This... is the only thing I can do."

He ordered his men, who had been lying in ambush nearby, to rescue the "deceived" Japanese.

Then, in the twenty-third episode, after finding Euphemia, Lelouch personally took action and fired a shot at her.

Suzaku, piloting the Lancelot, went berserk at the sight. He plummeted from the sky, snatched the shot Euphemia, and rushed back to base, but it was too late. He could only prolong her life for a brief moment.

In her final moments, Euphemia lay in her hospital bed, struggling to regain her consciousness. She no longer remembered what had happened, but she asked Suzaku, "Are the Japanese happy? Did... did I do well?"

When Suzaku replied that it had been "a great success," she murmured, "That's good," and after a few more words, closed her eyes for the last time.

Meanwhile, Lelouch and his Black Knights gained immense popularity and prestige from the incident.

After Lelouch delivered his declaration for the future, the crowd erupted in unison, chanting, "Zero! Zero! Zero!..."
