Ruby, Racheal, and Hazel walked through the corridor of the royal palace with faint smiles on their faces when they heard that Damian had called for them that night. After everything that had happened recently, they assumed he had finally decided to speak with them privately, perhaps even to settle the tension that had remained between them since the court reforms.
None of them expected anything particularly pleasant, but there was still a small part of each woman's heart that hoped Damian had begun to soften toward them.
When they reached the doors to his chamber, Hazel pushed them open without hesitation. All three women immediately froze.
Lying on the floor in front of Damian's bed were three figures, their bodies bloodied and battered, unconscious but still breathing. The sight instantly erased the smiles from their faces.
