Chapter X: Security
One afternoon, just after class, Hageshi, Ryujin, Haruto, and Inoshiro are chatting about the latest PewDiePie memes on YouTube.
"Bro have you seen the latest music video by Pewds?", Inoshiro asks.
"Yeah, but damn, the numbers are getting higher than The Series" (Hageshi)
"But Pewds have been beating them. Let's support on there with Jack and Mark." (Haruto)
"I hope Pewds wins dudes." (Ryujin)
"Hey, Ryujin, what are you doing right now?" (Inoshiro)
"I'm just reading an article here on Wikipedia." (Ryujin)
In actuality, Ryujin is reading on Japanese history and a part of his studies in defense and combat.
"Glad the university dismissed us early." (Ryujin)
"Aight, what was their reason?" (Inoshiro)
"Maybe it was another teacher's program?" (Hageshi)
"Nah, that was the other day dudes, and the only information that I got from my aunt was they are having a meeting." (Ryujin)
"Highschool only?" (Hageshi)
"Nah, Idk, they didn't specified." (Ryujin)
Within the conference hall of the administration building, the University President, Dr. Minato Yoshida holds a crucial meeting to discuss the upcoming Starlight Festival. Reports from the head guard hint at a shadowy threat, mysterious hooded individuals attempting to breach the university.
All of the college deans and teachers are there, especially Principal Kimura, Shinse Kusakaze, Dr. Aoshima, Hajime, Dr. Shimoda Ruma, Rika Kantano. Daijiro Pyuriro, Akio Ryoma and Marielle Shikaku.
After finding their respective seats, Dr. Yoshida comes forward.
"Good Evening ladies and gentlemen. I called you here today to discuss a very important issue and about the Starlight Festival. As you all know, the Starlight Festival is the brightest and one of the highlights of our prestigious alma matter. However, security are at an alarming rate of concern, especially, if we have a lot of reports by students, staff, and guards. For one, we have reports from the head guard. Some people, described as mysterious hooded figures, are attempting to break into the university. During the entrance exam, they were struck by bolts of lightning by an Aquarius either conscious or not conscious. Another guard from the back gate reported seeing a black figure emerging from nowhere. Luckily, he caught a picture of this being," Dr. Yoshida says, showing a picture on the projector.
"We investigated the picture to see if it's photo-shopped, but it is not. The angle and the shadow were all normal. It is said, that he is lurking within the university but we need the police to help investigate it. We've positioned CCTV cameras, sensor devices, and stationed policemen at each gate. CCTV cameras are added for each angles of college buildings, even alleyways. For the safety of everyone on campus, students, staff, and teachers should avoid leaving the campus from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. Each class secretary should strictly take note of the absentees and even those who are at the program, those with clubs. Any resulting injury to a student holds the school's responsibility of not being secured for this event. Any questions? The floor is now open for questions. " Dr. Yoshida continues.
"I have one, Sir". Principal Kimura raises a hand.
"Alright, lay it on me.", Dr. Yoshida responds.
"How are we sure that within the reach of each CCTV camera can occupy and have the range checked?" Principal Kimura asks.
"The CCTV cameras are directly connected to each student organization office, student council office, office of the deans, the university security council, and the office of the university president." (Dr. Yoshida)
Dr. Yoshida shows a map for each college.
"Since there are 20 colleges here in the university plus one high school and elementary school, there are 35 buildings here in the campus, including the gymnasium, the Abe Hall, the Economics Building, The University Library, The Grandstand, the Stadium, Hospital, and the dormitories for students and teachers. Each have at least 20 CCTV Cameras, to keep an eye on trouble makers, especially outsiders, intruders, and foreigners." (Dr. Yoshida)
He pauses for a bit.
"Alright, who else have an inquiry?" (Dr. Yoshida)
"I have one, Sir" (Dean of the College of Communication and Information Technology)
"Ok, what is your question?" (Dr. Yoshida)
"How secured are the entry of students here in the campus by the gate? Like are students identified with a valid ID?" (Dean of the College of Communication and Information Technology)
"Hmm, that is a problem, especially students from other universities and schools would come here uninvited with the exception of the Starlight Festival. Do you have an idea for it?" (Dr. Yoshida)
"Well, we could have an ID Card scanner implemented on each gate. Just like other universities, especially the ones in St. Louis University in Baguio City, Philippines, they have a nice way for the security." (Dean of the College of Communication and Information Technology)
"Hmm, we do have the online forum and the online student accounts via icloudjap. Can we connect the icloudjap to the ID Card scanner system?" (Dr. Yoshida)
"Actually yes, Sir. We could connect the link with that, showing the records of entry and exit and what gate they come out or in from. But there is a concern on this variable, Sir" (Dean of the College of Communication and Information Technology)
"Which is what?" (Dr. Yoshida)
"Data Privacy, Sir" (Dean of the College of Communication and Information Technology)
"Please elaborate more on that, Dean of the College of Communication and Information Technology." (Dr. Yoshida)
"Picture this, Sir. Students who are having a large friend group, they will share secrets and information. If a student is lazy going to school, then they will tell their friends to use their ID card and it will launch something back to the scanner into the online site. But we have some solutions to this these were also implemented and are informed towards the College of Communication and Information Technology. We could for one, educate people on Data Privacy, explaining the Privacy of Information and private information should not be shared towards each other, especially personal information. Second and last, we put a tracker on each of the ID cards as it will trigger an alarm or report on the online student account, Sir." (Dean of the College of Communication and Information Technology)
"Alright, I'll take that into consideration, thank you, Dr. Nokia."
"In that case, for the meantime, CCTV Cameras, and police personnel will still be in used until the ID Scanners will arrive. And, please inform your students that they will need to have their ID cards which will be for next week, as well as an orientation about Data Privacy. This will occur just before the start of our Starlight Festival. In lieu of the Starlight Festival, the final events for the festival will be posted soon within this week." (Dr. Yoshida)
The weight of these security concerns settles heavily in the room, casting a shadow over the festivities that lay ahead for the Special Power and Defense Class and the Starlight Festival.
